Guest guest
Debbie I have had the chemical stress test, but don't remember any pain. My heartt rate did go up. The abnormality (slow return of blood to the front of my heart) showed up in the scan that was done after the stress test (right away). Be sure that a doctor, preferablly a cardiologist is there when the test is given. Good luck, laurie > > > Hi Everyone, > I've just found out my Echo showed my heart is not pumping the > blood out properly and something else is wrong. Guest guest
Debbie - sorry you've had that problem. My brother has heart failure - the muscles of the heart are too weak to pump properly - over time it has enlarged also. There were a couple of times they thought he was having a heart attack but tests showed that wasn't the case - it was just the heart failure. There's a blood test (enzyme, I think) that is done when ever an attack is suspected and those were always positive - even though later it was considered a false positive. He has a pacemaker and defibrillator implanted now. He is coming along. I guess the heart failure can look at an attack. Good Luck Heart Questions Hi Everyone, I've just found out my Echo showed my heart is not pumping the blood out properly and something else is wrong. I tried to listen to what my doctor was saying but when I hung up I forgot most of it. I am scheduled for a stress test Monday Morning. I have to have the chemical test because I can't walk on the treadmill. I have had this before and I had pain with it. It scares me because I'm afraid it could cause a heart attack. Has anyone had this type of pain during testing? What type of heart problems do any of you have due to mito? My doctor said it could be caused by a blockage, the mito disease or a possible past heart attack I didn't know about. Thank you for your help. I tried to listen to > what my doctor was saying but when I hung up I forgot most of it. This sounds like short-term memory loss, I get it a lot when my blood ammonia is high. > I am scheduled for a stress test Monday Morning. I had the treadmill test, and the cardiologist was there the whole time, so I wasn't concerned about having a heart attack. They watch you with eagle eyes during the test, and start it before they add the chemicals (there is still an IV for the treadmill test), AND they have an antidote ready if your heart goes too fast. > Has anyone had this type of pain during testing? What type of > heart problems do any of you have due to mito? I haven't had pain with the treadmill test, but I do well with heavy exercise, and poorly with light exercise. My two heart problems are most likely related - bradycardia (slow heart beat, less than 60 bpm) and sinus arrhythmia (heart rate goes from 50 to 110 bpm quickly and back again). But otherwise my heart is okay, I passed the stress test and my echos are okay. I think they do a " normal " test before the stress test, so I think if they saw a lot of blockage at that point, they wouldn't do the stress test. Take care, RH > My doctor said it could be caused by a blockage, the mito disease > or a possible past heart attack I didn't know about. The test will help you figure out what it could be, it's best to not worry about possibilities until the test is done. You might want to double check that the cardiologist will be there while the stress test is going on, that should ease some fears. Take care, RH
Guest guest
I had an echo that showed a left ventricular diastolic dysfunction. My PCP wanted me on blood pressure medication but it made me really sick so I made sure to see a cardiologist. The cardiologist said I did not need medication at this point and that we would just keep on eye on things. I had a EKG at the local docs that showed evidence to a possible mild heart attack so they scheduled a stress test. I had the chemical stress test and found it very painful. They kept giving me more of the medication to bring the heart rate up because it wasn't working like it does for most people. Also, you may want to have someone drive you, in case you get sick from the medication they use like I did. I had to pull over several times to the side of the road to get sick. Not fun! The results were normal thank goodness, so we just keep an eye on things some more. I hope you get some answers. dsm322 wrote: >Hi Everyone, > I've just found out my Echo showed my heart is not pumping the >blood out properly and something else is wrong. Guest guest
To be honest with you, that's why I didn't have the chemical test - I was more afraid of the chemicals than trying to increase my heart rate on its own. I don't necessarily recommend it to others, it's just that I started highly aerobic exercise when they thought I had myasthenia gravis, where it wouldn't be contraindicated. I was originally concerned about the exercise stress test because I thought it was slowly ramping up, too slow for my body to compensate, but I talked to the cardiologist right before the test, and we agreed that it would be a fast increase in heart rate, which works well for me. I did break a sweat from the treadmill test. I don't know if they could do a different test instead, has anyone asked? There are fast MRI machines now that can image the heart, but I don't think they are widely available. Guest guest
Debbie Have you taked with your doctor about CoQ10 and Carnitor. The CoQ10 is great for the heart and the Carnitor makes the CoQ10 work better. They support one another. laurie > > > > > > > >Hi Everyone, > > > I've just found out my Echo showed my heart is not pumping the > > >blood out properly and something else is wrong. Guest guest
I have slow heart rates once in a while, so the cardiologist told me to *increase* my salt intake. My GI doctor told me to decrease it, so now they both say " keep it about the same " , lol. Caffiene helps me increase my heart rate, but I get panic attacks and palpitations sometimes from it. I wish we could get some guidance from the top mito docs on how the best way (the least damaging way) to do a cardiac stress test would be for mito patients. I wonder if they would put out guidance specifically on that test (chemical vs. exercise, which chemical)? Guest guest
Debbie, I just want to echo Laurie's suggestion. Most of my heart symptoms resolved when I began taking Carnitor. No more angina, no more elephant on my chest, no more sleeping propped up. This was 1988 and those symptoms have never returned. Worth asking about. Some cardiologists use Q10 with their heart patients as a general practice. One of our local cardiologists does this. I haven't tried it yet mainly due to money issues. I'll talk to the cardioligist about it. Dr. Cohen told me and my sister to take it. She started going to Dr. Cohen before me and has been on it for about 4 years. She had a massive heart attack at 43, she is now 58. I think it is time I start listening and quit thinking this is not real. Thanks Debbie > > > > >
Guest guest
I got seizures when on Carnitor, so like with any drug, pay attention when you first start it. I couldn't believe it when I started having the seizures, but they resolved completely when I went off it, then resumed when I went back on. I do not have a detectable carnitine deficiency however, it was just given to me as " part of the mito cocktail " . Take care, RH > Debbie, I just want to echo Laurie's suggestion.
