Guest guest
Hi , I don't think breast milk has casein in it. I am nursing my eleven-month-old. My DAN Doctor suggested that I pump some milk and slip it into 's sippy cup last week when he was battling an awful virus. The Doctor is well aware that is GFCF, so I think it is okay. Also, a good friend of mine keeps Kosher and she told me that breast milk is not considered dairy. Does anyone else know? Like I said, I think it is okay. Bye, Becky
Guest guest
We had many conversations about this a couple of months ago and many people brought forward info that breast milk does have casein in it. Atleast that it how I remember it however, I was hoping that it would never pertain to me and that I would never be in a situation to have to breast feed again. But, yes, I believe it does have casein. All the lit on the formulas though........they dont sound like a good alternative AT ALL!! Guest guest
I looked into this pretty extensively because I was still nursing my son when he was first diagnosed with autism. We first did the gfcf diet by cutting out everything but the breastmilk, but we made sure I followed the diet as well. I finally weaned my son, and he did seem to go through a bit of casein withdrawal...but it wasn't very bad. Plus, he was 2 1/2 by then, and I felt like he was old enough to move on. Casein is present in breastmilk, but it is in a slightly different form (or so I've been told) than in cow's milk, which makes it easier to digest. There is also a much smaller quantity of casein in human milk. In our experience, my son improved tremendously even before I weaned him. > There is a mom near me who is wanting to try gf/cf for her ASD son. > She mentioned she is still nursing, will this affect her progress? Guest guest
Just a thought....does a breastfeeding Mom have to be gfcf to eliminate these proteins being passed to baby through breastmilk? I may be wrong, but I wonder? ('s Mom and way done breastfeeding for many, many years) Re: question about breastfeeding > Hi , > > I don't think breast milk has casein in it. Guest guest
Also, if mom eats and drinks gluten and or casein it transfers into the breastmilk. I have been researching this since I am due with a daughter in June. And my 5yo son is PDD. Hugs, Terry.B
Guest guest
I went gfcf for my youngest, who I nursed LONG, although not exclusively. We saw reactions when I ate gluten/casein/corn, but I can't compare whether he would be even better if he had no casein from mom's milk too. However, he is NT on diet. Guest guest
Breast milk does contain casein as well as any mammal's milk (goat, sheep, etc.) After discussions with , our final thought was mom should be on the GFCF diet while breast feeding a GFCF child. This seems to work for many ASD children until the child is weaned to totally GFCF. Keep in mind, you may not see the full benefits of the GFCF diet while breast feeding. Guest guest
I should add... there are so many benefits to breastfeeding, that I would never discourage anyone from breastfeeding their GFCF child!
