Guest guest
Donna- My take on this, and I have lots of joint pain, is that first of all, we can get what anyone else gets, but when you add in weak muscles, there is more wear and tear on joints and arthritis developes. laurie > I was wondering if in additon to the muscle pain and weakness does joint pain also go with mito? Does anyone have both? I my son, daughter and mom all have been diagnosed with mito. My son is the most severe as he also has severe cyclic vomiting and severe dysautonomia. My daughter has dysautonomia to a moderate degree, is lactose intolerant and has migraines. I just had a tilt table done and > have dysautonomia had cyclic vomiting for 5-6 years as a teenager, I also have been told I have rheumatory arthritis and arthritis in my eyes. This joint and muscle pain is really bothering me it seems to get worse in the evening I can barley walk at times my feet sides of my feet just ache my hands, fingers elbows and hips. I was recommended to a rhemuatologist at the cleveland clinic thanks bug I will try to make an appointment next week. Thanks. > Donna K > > > > Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein are not necessarily those of the list moderators. Guest guest
Yes, Laurie, when the muscles can't do their job right, the joints as well as the muscles get more stress. I believe this can lead to a variety of pain, inflamation, and or joint damage. I believe a lot of my wrongly diagnosed " rheumatoid arthritis " pain was due to that. I was on heavy duty meds for RA for 6 years. I started to titrate them down myself, and finally stopped them all together, and had no increased symptoms. ( I did this with full knowledge of the rheumatologist, and under his careful observation, but against his recommendation, I want to add - I just insisted on the " experiment " , and he was kind enough to let me try it.) When I watched my body mechanics - and this took years to learn to do - I got some relief. The most annoying " residue " of the symptoms I still have is intermittent extreme stiffness. Luckily, I also learned early on that movement will help that. There was a time that I set the alarm in the middle of the night, just to move around a little bit, because I was afraid that if I didn't I would not be able to get myself out of bed in the morning. Walking down the stairs backwards in the morning was the only way I could manage it. I still feel a need to move, frequently. Not a lot, just to move/walk a little. Strange, what live with. Guest guest
Hi Donna, I need to ask a question and although it may sound dumb or stupid. I have noticed that you have written a few times about you having arthritis in your eyes, and every time I read it I sit here at my computer and can't figure out how that can be, unless of course you are speaking about the bone structure that the eyeball itself sits in. Our eyes are made up of tissues, muscles, veins, fluid, etc... Arthritis is a disease of the bone. So I don't quite understand what you are saying. Can you explain this to me?? Thanks!! I believe that you can have both Mito and Rheumatoid arthritis. Have you ever been tested for RA? And if so were your results positive? Do you have any swelling in your hands, fingers, etc...? Do you have pain and or difficulty when you first get out of bed in the morning? I heard that morning achyness and stiffness is common in people with RA. I have spoken to so many Mito people who have painful hips and painful thighs. I don't know if the painful hips and thighs are related to the RA or to the Mito, or both of them. I think that it is a great idea that you are going to make an appointment with a Rheumatologist at CC. Hopefully they will be able to give you some answers and lessen your pain. Good Luck. Guest guest
I have been treated for osteoarthritis for 32 years as well as degenerative scoliosis in the mid-portion of the right lumbar spine Dr. Baker has treated me for this duration and he recently told me that he needed to start me on physical therapy on my right knee to get my knee to bend. He said that I since have severe neuromuscular damage to my right leg that can never be corrected and that my arthritis will only get worse due to the way I (attempt to) walk as I have somewhat of a cogwheeling-like action of my right lower extremity. The physical therapy has helped as I can now slightly bend my knee but it still won't straighten out? He is the one that first diagnosed my periphal neuropathy and tried to tell this to my former neurologist for quite some time. I have learned to be thankful for what works and not complain about what didn't.
