Hi there - Our worst regression with our son was from playing with regular play doh. We don't take a chance with that stuff any more - I make play doh for him from a recipe in ' book. It has corn starch and rice flour in it and it is excellent. It took us 3 weeks to get our son back after playing with regular play doh, the regression was that bad. I'm just glad that we figured out that the play doh was the culprit. It confirmed our belief in this diet. So... If you want that recipe - let me know. Guest guest
My first thought is that if the child is continuing to use playdoh, he's not really on the diet - so how does anyone knew whether or not it causes a bad effect? After all, he has a continuing source of gluten. During our early gfcf weeks, I was unaware of problems with school supplies, shampoo, etc., but we had immediate progress on the diet. We could have stayed at that level and proclaimed the diet a success, but switching to only gfcf products took my child up to another level. Then when he later used wheat-based paste, he regressed. It was slower and cumulative rather than an immediate gluten food reaction. Nowadays, he won't even enter a room where someone is using wheat flour because he says he can feel a reaction starting when he inhales the flour in the air. (I believe he is accurate about this. Many people with CD, for example, won't enter a bakery for the same reason.) ....I only have one friend > with a child on the diet and she lets him play with real play doh > with no ill effects.
