Guest guest
I am one of those parents who has done the diet for 8 months so far and all the initial DAN stuff blood work, stool, food sensitivities. My son is extremely low functioning but I can say that I think the diet along with addressing the other food issues has helped my son in a lot of ways but not the ones I wish they did. He is still nonverbal, has really no skills, totally in his own world unless he needs to eat, won't respond to any games, puzzles, books, he is also gettingmore and more aggressive and school is pushing for medication. been through many different programs with no changes except a few signs.shakes his head yes, loves listening to music. He had problems from 3 months on when he started having sunsetting eyes(neuro. referred to them as) His eye s would look down and flutter. Not seizures though. Anyway, sorry to be long winded. We just can't seem to ever get anywhere and I've posted year after year I think the same story. But I still cant except the fact that this is just the way it is. In my heart I feel there is something that no Dr. has figured out yet about my son who is now 7 yrs. old. He looks totally normal outside of his eyes crossing. This whole mercury thing has me so confused and interested. Could this be true for him? Have people gone this route of chelation only to find maybe little change for the better? I have only heard really encouraging news. He didn't develop normally and then loose skills like many children with autism. I am torn between maybe I need to except him the way he is and try to make the best of what ever kind of life he will have in the future OR explore the mercury connection and have four teeth pulled first since the have fillings in them and do all that it takes and see. Does anyone else feel this way? Thanks for listening. Cathy
Guest guest
Cathy, Your son sounds a lot like mine (except we only have a couple signs and no head shake for yes no) Davey will be 8 in April. I can't address the chelation thing, I would love to try, but it probably won't happen. Anyway the thing about your son's crossed eyes, my son does this too and the eye crossing and aggression are directly related to salicylates for him.... Davey has been on the diet about 18 months, and his quality of life is much better (he is happier and functions better in general) no great leaps in development, though. Have you looked at salicylates and phenols? The most common indicators seem to be apples, citrus fruit, and chocolate....Does your son have problems after eating these types of foods? We are GFCF YF and do our best to severely limit fruit, many vegetables, corn, and sorghum. With Davey, the amount of eye crossing is a direct indicator of how bad he is reacting to a particular food. Sorry if this is old hat to you, but the eye crossing and aggression really caught my eye. I have reached the point of accepting Davey may not " get better than this " and my plan is to help him be as comfortable with the world as I can. There is a private e-mail list for Severe/LFA kids. If you are not already on it and would like more info, let me know. You are not alone. @ ]]) @ ]]) aka: Toushoes .. He looks totally normal outside of his eyes crossing. Guest guest
I would definitely have a hair analysis done to see if there is possible mercury poisoning, what have you to lose? Also, there are ways to remove mercury fillings without pulling the teeth, you just need to make the dentist knows what he is doing.
