I remember these days all too clearly. One time left home without our

knowledge carrying a bag with a baby doll, barefooted and paint all over her

clothes from school. She headed down the main road behind our house. We live

on a military post that backs up to the city. She got picked up by the city

police- told them a fake name, that her dad was an auto-mechanic and that

her mother was in Hawaii and asked for $500.00 for a plain ticket and a ride

to the airport! Because she use to run off so often ( I had 4 kids at home

at the time, and she could just disappear before you knew it) the whole

neighborhood has our telephone number and when we alert them they start

knocking doors to help us find her. We finally called the military police

after an hour of not finding her door to door. They finally found out and

informed us that the city police had a little girl by the name of Crystal

but that she sounded like our daughter. Needless to say by the time we got

to the police station social services was there, and we were put under

investigation for neglect. The charges were eventually dropped but the

social worker was total b****! The police officer who picked her up knew she

was autistic right off the bat. When we got there she had 2 pocket full of

money, she was scamming every cop that came in, tons of soda, and was eating

clam strips they went and got her. What a deal. When she was 18 months old

she use to sneak out and climb the fence, as we had a lock on it trying to

prevent this, and she would let all of the neighbors dogs out of their

fences. Needless to say the neighbors hated us. I am so grateful these days

are over, it was a nightmare and we are so fortunate that she never got

hurt. Sorry to be so long winded, the post just stirred up old memories. At

the time I had no support, so I just wanted to let you know you are not the

only one!
