Guest guest
Who likes to go home and relax with a soothing candle? I know I do. I read an article this weekend by CBS HealthWatch about candles having lead in the wicks. When you burn the candle the lead is released into the air and then inhaled or settles on anything in the home. Toys that the children may pick up and put in their mouth. It goes on to say that a number of candle manufacturers and retail stores have cleared lead-wicked candles from their shelves. When in doubt ask a store clerk. Pier 1, Gap, Wal-Mart and a number of other well known stores have announced they do not sell candle with lead wicks. :-) It says to check the candle you currently have by splitting the wick with your fingernail to see what's inside. If it looks metallic, then there is a possibility that within the metal substance there could be lead. Finally it says that you can still use the candles as decoration without posing any threat. Only when you burn them. But even then I would not have the possible risk in my home.
