Hi Laurie,

I know this will be very hard and emotional for you. My prayers are with

you for a easy adjustment. I know you will still stay very busy helping

others here on where you are needed so badly.

Blessings and smiles to you,

retirement-NMR

Laurie, for some reason I had no idea that you had actually picked

out a retirement date. I know it was a hard transition for me

initially, but now I thank God I have the flexibility in my schedule

to just feel sick when I need to. It makes life so much easier when

you can go shopping during the day, or have a flexible schedule for

appointments. It's definately culture shock at first, but you'll be

glad you did ! Best wishes.

Good luck, Laurie! My dad is more busy now that he is retired. I

think it's just a different set of " things to do " . Though I hope,

unlike my dad, you get a chance to travel a bit, or enjoy your free

time a little. My dad hates travel, since the U.S. Navy gave him

a " free ride " in W.W. II :)

Take care,

RH

Thanks!!

Right now rest sounds the most interesting thing to do.

I have lots of things I want to do, but don't know if travel will be one of

them. Flying is such a pain with a wheelchair. I may change my mind after

resting and getting my kitchen finished, but right now the idea of having

nothing to do (except doctors appointments on Mon. and Tue.) sounds great.

My day went fine and I got through all the good-byes. My son and

daughter-in-law had asked to take me out to dinner at this absolutely

wonderful restaurant. When I got there, and her daughter and one of

my brothers and his wife were there. It was a wonderful surprise.

Thanks for thinking of me.

Thanks! I decided at Thanksgiving that I couldn't make it through until the

end of the school year. The decision was hard, but I am happy I made it and

I even got through the good-byes without tears today.

This means we can do lunch sometime.

I'm working in Ypsi now so we could most likely either meet for lunch or

dinner when you are here in the Dearborn area for classes.

I'd love to meet with you guys, but I think it would be best on a

non-school day. The drive is killing me. I'm already exhausted by

the time I get out of school, so I'd probably be falling asleep if I

met you guys first. Just pick a day and I'll drive out to ya.

Good Morning and Happy Retirement, Laurie. I deliberately did not

respond yesterday. I knew it would be a difficult day for you with

many ups and downs. It will take some time to sink in but you

certainly did a great deal for so many children thru the years who

needed your involvement in their lives. I am sure you will be

missed by many and remembered by all. I'm glad you had such a nice

send off. I suspect you'll still see some of those people you

expect to miss from time to time.

Now it's time to smell the roses and enjoy some special time for

you. There are projects of course that can keep you busy but if you

are able, travel and spending more time with family and friends is a

prize you have earned.

I'm sure there were a lot of tears yesterday. When you make this

decision and the final day comes, it does not come without a lump in

your throat. Today is a new day and the beginning of a new era in

your life. Throw away the alarm clock. (Joking of course) You don't

have to think of today and tomorrow as a rush day to get all the

things done that you need completed before Monday. You can now shop

on weekdays and it's so nice not to have to fight the weekend crowds

at the grocery store. If you are like me, it will take time to

adjust to this but it will happen.

Congratulations, Laurie! Freedom at last!

Dear Laurie, I know when I retired 11 years ago it was a time of mixed

emotions. I hope you are able to take with you many cherished memories

and hopefully you will be able to keep up with some of the people you

are fond of, celia
