Guest guest
hey Laurie, I will say that I love Green Tea, although I don't know if it works or not. My mom is always trying to tell me to drink it. In fact I have a box of it in the cupboard that I have used only 3 of the 50 bags since she gave it to me in February. Bad Bad Me. Guest guest
I've heard green tea can increase blood pressure, but it seems studies have shown the opposite: http://vanderbiltowc.wellsource.com/dh/content.asp?ID=1688 so I'd check with my doctor before having 4 cups per day. I'd probably have a problem with that much caffiene, and my blood pressure tends to be low so I wouldn't want to lower it... There also was a mention of lowering blood sugar: http://64.233.161.104/search? q=cache:kNno1y4xLaUJ:www.lef.org/featured-articles/greent.html+% 22green+tea%22+%22blood+pressure%22&hl=en I have hypoglycemia, so again people like me should watch out for it, and if anyone is on diabetes medication, keep a check on your sugars when drinking it. I'm not a medical doctor, but I find it is very interesting that there's so much info about " good-for-you foods " having pharmaceutical properties. Avocado on the other hand is probably good for everything http://www.avocadosource.com/WAC2/WAC2_p025.htm Since I'm on an Atkins-type diet, I'm going to have to buy my first avocado and make some fresh guacamole! Guest guest
My Mother preached the nutritional values of both Avacodos and Green Tea, I was never one to eat Avocados but my Mother ate them for many years. I never drank anything but Orange-Pekoe dark tea but during my seven year battle with cancer one of my doctors suggested green tea and gave me a long list of nutritional values and the major health benefits received from green tea long as my arm but it wasn't until I had my second mastectomy and my surgeon " virtually demanded " that I start drinking it and I still do for hot tea and if I'm not feeling the best in the world for any length of time I make my iced tea out of green tea. Come on , if this 69 year old lady says " try it you might like it " give it a whirl. I realize that it does have a, should I say strange look to it but it does really have a good taste and they have it in different flavors now. Guest guest
I had never heard from anyone that green tea can lower your blood sugar, but that may be an explanation as to why I no longer am on medication for diabetes and just have been watching my diet. At different times since I was in my early 20's I have been on diabetic medications I first took have taken Orinase for several years and then later my PCP started me on DiaBeta but for the past nine years I take nothing I just watch very carefully what I eat. Among other medications I do take one for blood pressure two for my heart. I only drink two cups of green tea (same tea bag) every morning and at least two/three glasses of iced tea daily, but not always green tea. The only time I drink any kind of pop is when my Irritable Bowel Syndrome or my ulcer is causing me problems with nausea. The RN from ee County Health Dept who makes a home visit monthly suggested that when I can get to a health food store that I buy and use a decaffeinated tea concentrate so I can make only a glass of tea at a time and drink several bottles of water daily. I can get better info from her as if I try to ask questions of my PCP acts like she looks at me like she thinks I am developing dementia and makes no effort to help me get any tests or any kind run. I got an e-mail DA last week, they had received correspondence from both Dr. Baker my Orthopeadic doctor and Dr. Arjunan my neurosureon who had referred me to Research Hospital in Kansas City where I had my Gamma Knife done. Guest guest
Here I am again giving my two-cents worth, but wanted to pass along that they also have a herbal blend of green tea. The one I got when I was with my Grandson and his family Mother's Day is 100% natural and is Orange, Passion Fruit and Jasmine which has very mild taste. Guest guest
Green tea is also a natural blood thinner I believe, so if you have any issues in that area, you should most likely keep that in mind. Guest guest
I am glad that I did hear from MDA as I feel that with their aid and that of my other doctors that I can get a chance to get the proper tests run. My current neurologist referred me to a hematologist/genetic specialist and he said that for one thing I have a severe B-12 defiency and he had me check with my PCP to see if she wanted to order a Schilling test for me as he felt one was required, when I went to see her she informed me that she didn't feel the test was necessary and I was just trying to think up a new ailment as last year my B-12 test was fine, so there I am again she has been impossible to deal with since I changed neurologists the first of the year when my Orthopaedic doctor figured out that he had been right all along and that I did not have Parkinsons he fired my previous neurologist as he hung up on him when he tried to talk to him about the incorrect diagnosis, consulted with the doctor I am seeing now who previously had been a member of the private group that my previous neurologist and my PCP are members of. Guest guest
It sounds like it may be time to search for another PCP. I know how very hard that is, especially if you have an HMO, but is sounds like things have gotten political, not medical. Guest guest
I have pretty much decided that doctors feel like they can get by with anything with anyone my age, they figure that when you are 69 they can convince you of anything. I just am thankful for the good doctors that I do have, it is too bad that you have to be forced to have a PCP but that is the way of life anymore. I go back to the times when one doctor delivered babies, did surgery, did your blood work while you waited and then got in his cabinet and got out the medicine that you needed and the charge was very reasonable, but it had to be as pay was very minimal at that time. Oh well, that's life I guess at least I am doing much better than last year at this time when they were stuffing every kind of Parkinsons medication that was on the market down me and my condition was getting worse by the day. Thanks, Dolores dgregori@...> wrote:It sounds like it may be time to search for another PCP. I know how very hard that is, especially if you have an HMO, but is sounds like things have gotten political, not medical. My current neurologist referred me to a hematologist/genetic specialist and he said that for one thing I have a severe B-12 defiency and he had me check with my PCP to see if she wanted to order a Schilling test for me as he felt one was required, when I went to see her she informed me that she didn't feel the test was necessary and I was just trying to think up a new ailment as last year my B-12 test was fine, so there I am again she has been impossible to deal with since I changed neurologists the first of the year when my Orthopaedic doctor figured out that he had been right all along and that I did not have Parkinsons he fired my previous neurologist as he hung up on him when he tried to talk to him about the incorrect diagnosis, consulted with the doctor I am seeing now who previously had been a member of the private group that my > previous neurologist and my PCP are members of.
