Guest guest
Hi all, My son has been GFCF since September 1. We haven't seen any progress in terms of his autism, but have seen a decrease in allergy symptoms. He, like many autistic children, has had diarrhea off and on since birth. He is 6 years old now. His diarrhea did seem to subside after our first and only Secretin infusion when he was 4. The problem is that it is back. He has also regressed over the last 3 months. We had a lot of problems with his school, so I thought that was what caused the regression. However, I am now beginning to think it may be connected to the diarrhea. This time it is a brick red/brown color and has a very strong odor. My question: We have an appointment with our physician tomorrow morning. I want to have his stool analyzed to see if it contains any blood. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to convince the doctor to run this test? I have a sample that I saved. This doctor is new to us as we just moved to this area about 9 months ago(we have seen him once before). Also, does anyone know of a lab that will test stool for blood without a doctor's orders, if this doc refuses to test it? We have already had his stool tested by GPL once before but his stools are not always bloody. I am really tired of trying to guess what is wrong with my son. Thanks for any suggestions. whcmccain@... Guest guest
Is it possible that he has stool impaction and the diarrhea is just seeping around it? this is common in kids with autism. Maybe you doctor could check it out? Usually by an x-ray. Betty Mother to 30 yo with possible bipolar or clinical depression who is at home again. Guest guest
Listmates, Just wanted to let you all know that we saw the doc this morning and has given me several cards with which to take samples of my son's stool to see if it contains blood. So at least if he has a red looking stool anytime in the next couple of months, then we will know if it is in fact bloody. Now, I just hope our appointment with the neurologist on Monday goes as well. Thanks,
