Guest guest
We just changed insurances. Fortunately we did it under a business so that it was still group insurance. Do not let one policy lap when you change. By that don't let one policy run out and be without for awhile and then try to get individual insurance. They may not accept your child or will upp your rates. We also were told to be cautious about revealing autism as a diagnoses. We just described--seizures, speech delays, etc. Can you get group insurance? They have to accept the families/people in the group. With private insurance they don't. This is what I was told. We live in PA. Is your child eligible for SSI? If so then you can get the insurance for your child that comes with SSI and that will pay for therapies. Guest guest
Years ago, my husband went from COBRA coverage from his prior employer to Blue Cross Individual (ie, we paid for it) coverage and I must say, that individual coverage was the pits. We paid for a family of four, but after we had discontinued the COBRA coverage and it was too late to go back, we found that we really had coverage for 2 1/2. (Our son didn't yet have any DX, so he was fully covered! ) But my daughter had NO coverage because she had had pneumonia twice the winter she was two (never hospitalized, only caught because we had a sharp pediatrician) so they wouldn't cover her even if she broke her leg...go figure...and I had endometriosis, so was excluded from ANY gynecological coverage, even annual exams, yeast infections, etc. We breathed a huge sigh of relief when my husband went back to being an employee with benefits.
