Guest guest
I do not think the taste is too awful bad. In fact if it is cold it is tolerable. Of course my son does not like it even in Chocolate milk. A person on another list said that the generic has a different taste and that her kids like it better. I am supposed to take 1000 or 2 teaspoons 3 times a day but usually only end up taking 2 dosages. I am better at taking it when I am symptom free. Janet Sample carnitor This may be helpful. Now that my memory has been jogged - I recall that I HAD asked the pharmacist about the liquid a while back. He looked at the dosage I was prescribed and said it wouldn't be feasible- it would be a LOT to drink. (I didn't get any idea of the amount of liquid he was considering it to be). In pill form it's 18 pills a day. (By your calculations - that would be almost 12 tsp a day). Doesn't sound like a horrible amount (unless the taste is really intolerable). The pharmacy has been filling my script with the generic brand since it became available (but that hasn't made a difference). Guest guest
I can't recall; I think it was Janet who suggested trying the liquid carnitor. (I couldn't tolerate a high dose of the tablets.) Just wanted to say thanks! It've been able to triple my dosage without a problem. Maggie
Guest guest
-Hi Maggie I wanted to let you know that you can also get the rest of the cocktail in liquid form if you can find a compounding pharmacy. I take vitamin C and E, lipoic acid, riboflavin, and thiamine in one liquid and Co Q-10 in another. I have a hard time swallowing pills and they don't always break down in my stomach. Another added benefit- my insurance covers them this way! All I had to do was get prior approval because of dysphagia and now all I pay is the copay. It's a big savings because I'm on 1800mg of Co Q-10 a day. Meds would be like another mortgage payment. Guest guest
Maggie, This is interesting. Can you tell me if the liquid is priced similarly to the tablets or does it cost more? I realize the co-pay would be the same, but I wonder about actual cost to insurance. (Janet, do you know the cost difference, if any?) I would like to try the liquid but because it has sucrose, I have not. However, it might work dripped into my j-tube. Carnitor causes me a lot of GI distress and it would be wonderful if the liquid would improve that problem. I'm glad you found a solution.
