Hi

Is there any way of checking a child's vision when said child is non-verbal?

I ask because I'd like to have DD's vision checked. It suddenly occured to

me that she may be having a hard time focusing on things because she's

farsighted? She can see fairly small things, but I wonder if they may be

blurry. After all, I can see things at a distance, but if I'm not wearing my

glasses, don't ask me what they are!!!

Thanks

Some eye doctors use what is called an auto-refractor to check the vision.

It automatically checks the vision without the patient having to say

anything. I just took my son to the eye doctor last week and they used one

to check his vision. He is verbal, but still had problems with the charts.

Yes, eyes can be tested if a child is non-verbal. I took my son to a

pediatric ophthalmologist with experience in autism. A regular pediatric dr

should also be able to do this.
