Getting OT, PT and Speech Evals

I noticed in a message someone was having trouble

getting an OT Evaluation done. For anyone out there

as frustrated as I have been with insurance or

direction from ANYONE, let me pass along one

suggestion. An Occupational Therapist and mother of

two autistic kids suggested we contact our doctor for

a script for PT, OT and Speech Eval. We then contacted

three centers, evaluated costs and went with Easter

Seals (who was out-of-network but less expensive than

in-network), submitted the script and have completed

all three evals in just a couple of weeks!

If you haven't tried Easter Seals it's a thought.

They also have a sliding payment scale (based on your

income) and have quicker access to a developmental

pediatrician than I could get through my insurance (a

couple of weeks versus 8 months).

Hope this helps someone!

thatnk for the OT sugestions. the thing is your

local school district is responsible to pay for, and

when we decided to go ahead while they dragged your

feet our local hospital doubted that medicaid would

cover something clearly that should be covered by the

local school district.

We are pursuing services from the school district and

are participating in Speech and OT in a PPCD program

(Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities),

however their services are minimal and a school

district's focus would be to SAVE as much money as

they can while a services based agency would be to

MAKE money. We figure involving both in determining

EXACTLY what is going on would give us a balanced

direction.

Also, things that are FREE take twice as long and time

is the one thing we don't have for early intervention.

We are still interested and looking into services

provided by the school district though. Thanks for

the info.

Is anyone out there in the North Texas area and/or

familiar with Texas Board of Education programs/laws?
