You can take a pound of brown sugar and add 1-2 cups of boiling water, depending on how thick you want it. You can even add some vanilla. I had to go back to homemade. I could not believe that my husband decided he liked homemade better than pure maple syrup. We used to use Mapleine to make our home made but it is out now so I just use brown sugar to make the syrup. Evan never did like Mac & cheese and we have never found a decent cheese so I cannot help you with that. Have you tried just making a white sauce for his macaroni? I know what you mean about feeling overwhelmed. And living on a remote island really puts you at a disadvantage. I hope you have more good luck with your bread and less bricks.
