Guest guest
I seem to remember reading recently that you (I think) have to take larger than normal amounts of thyroid meds because of your mito...Please could you explain further why etc...Thanks Gillian
Guest guest
Gillian The doctors seem to think that due to the error in the metabolic pathways, I need more than normal to get enough into my system to make it work. My labs are in the normal range with this dosage. I even take an extra .05 mg four days a week. That seems to be better than half that much every day for some reason. For as long as I can remember, doctors have told me that they have to use doses for that of an elephant and now with the mito diagnosis, we know why (or at least there is a theory). laurie > I seem to remember reading recently that you (I think) have to take > larger than normal amounts of thyroid meds because of your > mito...Please could you explain further why etc...Thanks > > Gillian > > > > > > Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein are not necessarily those of the list moderators. Guest guest
Thanks Laurie, My Doc has just put me back on split dosing that is taking half a dose twice a day as they were finding that by early afternoon my FT4 was going up way too high going hyper for a while then it plummeted down as if my body was not 'using' the med properly.. I was on split dosing for many years and bloods were stable but a snotty consultant 2 years ago said 'thyroid meds are once a day only take it all in one dose'GGGrrr that seemed to contribute to things going downhill... have noticed that in the past week I have felt a bit better on the split again and my Doc thinks he will be able to increase my dose now as some of the results were wrong at other times of day.... .. maybe its the mito not letting me use it efficiently..my mito doc seemed to think that I needed double the amount I take but my body couldn't cope so will slowly increase it this way as they suggest...He is wondering if this could be causing my BP trouble as hypo. not enough thyroxine can cause that to go up ... yes I think the theory may be correct Gillian -- In , Laurie Fitzgerald wrote: > Gillian > > The doctors seem to think that due to the error in the metabolic > pathways, I need more than normal to get enough into my system to make > it work.
