,

My sister has always been carsick(as kids, we used to SWEAR she was just

saying that to get to ride in the front seat!). She now takes ginger and

says it makes all the difference in the world. There is a place called

Limited Edition Herbs that makes a liquid ginger that is glycerin based. She

just puts a few drops in water and VOILA! They are at

www.liquidherbs.net or 1-.

Good luck,

I have read that riding in a car is like riding on a roller coaster for some.

(Their eyes see fast movement and their stomachs don't keep up-so they get

sick). The solution (in this article) was to fix your eyes on a stationary

object and not look out the windows (side windows especially).

I hope that makes sense-it's been a while since I read the article.

Kim,

I would be more inclined to look into occupational therapy to investigate your

son's vestibular system. Motion sickness is most often tied to our inner

ear/vestibular system. There may be some suggestions that your OT can make. Our

daughter (typically developing) had rip roaring motion sickness as a toddler. We

knew that if we gave her a small meal prior to travelling, a half a dose of

Gravol (more made her comatose), let her sit where she could look out the window

and restricted reading or other activities like that then we could usually get

through the trip. Our son (our guy with ASD) didn't have motion sickness but did

have vestibular issues which made car rides, rides at the amusement part etc.

more bearable. Our OT helped us out a lot there.
