Guest guest
Dr G's protocol is a one size fits all approach to autism with heavy use of pharmaceuticals, mainly antivirals. he believes all autistic kids are the same and should be treated the same regardless of testing or reaction to said treatments. He believes diet and secretin are worthless and/or dangerous. His success rate is also VERY low if you read the entire scope of his work. He is ostracized from even the most progressive DAN! doctors due to his treatments. I believe Dr.Goldberg does have some dietary intervention, but does not agree with the entire GFCF diet. As Holly mentioned he does use a lot of medications. Not that I am totally against medications, but there is a time to medicate and a time not. In his protocol, I believe every child is medicated to a degree. There was a NIDS discussion list on e-groups and I'm sure it is still around on yahoo now. I believe Dr.Goldberg is the only doctor following the NIDS protocol (although this may be outdated info since he has been around for quite some time now and may have others who have joined him.) On the diet message board through GFCFdiet.com there are a few parents who follow his protocol. You could also get some input from them as well. I think the majority of us on this list are following the DAN protocol for autism. Cara >> Hi Cara We work w/Dr Goldberg and he is strictly GF/CF. He has encouraged us to NEVER deviate. Guest guest
We have been with Dr. G for almost a year. He is definitely an advocate of GFCF and even goes a little further by having us elimate all types of berries and nuts, all artificial coloring and of course, SUGAR!. Our son's diet has been more restrictive than just GFCF since Dr. G. Also, as for the one size fits all protocol rumor, I'm not sure if that's entirely true. I have four other friends who's children are patients of Dr. G and none of them have the same protocol or medication. True, some of our children are on anti-virals or anti-fungals, but certainly not all of them. Dr. G has always been frustrated at the lack of options available to treat our children and that is why he is pushing for the new immune modulators that will hopefully end the necessity for ongoing medication. I think the reason he typically prescribes anti-virals for his patients is because almost ALL of his patients have very high viral titers. Also, their immune system is suppressed and cannot keep yeast in check, thus the need for anti-fungals. Our son had VERY high HHV6 titers prior to Dr. G's protocol. In the last year the levels have come down and his anti-viral meds have been reduced. We hope to have him off of it completely by this summer. I don't think Dr. G is the answer for every child. However, I think some children can benefit from his methods so I wanted to share our story. KB, Calif << >>> Message: 3 Date: Mon, 12 Feb 2001 19:39:44 EST From: MMacGregor@...
