Guest guest
I was just wondering if anyone knows if a baby can be comfortable in a carrier with their casts on. Are their legs too heavy to hang from it? I am expecting my son with Bilateral clubfeet on 3/6 and have just been wondering about whether we will be able to use it or not. Thanks, Caroline
Guest guest
The bjorn is the best for dealing with the bar later. when laura had her casts I used a sling just so the weight wouldn't be an issue. But you surely could try the bjorn then as well. Chris Baby Borjn carrier I was just wondering if anyone knows if a baby can be comfortable in a carrier with their casts on. Guest guest
Personally I would not carry a casted baby in a front-style carries ... where his legs hang through the holes. I do think it creates too much weight being pulled down. There is some little published research regarding that style of carrier stating it's un-natural for the human body to support it's weight on its (crotch)...what is the scientific word? It's said to stress the spinal cord having all the body's weight resting on the tail bone/crotch area - if true, the weight of the cast would only add to the risk. I used a sling with my baby in casts and DBB both. He was always comfortable and content and could be carried around with me as I did my chores. I perferred the " Pouch " style rather than the long adjustable " sling " .....you can do a web search, there are many companies selling them and you will see the difference in styles I'm talking about. It was just easier to use in my opinion. They run about $30 or so but last until your baby is too heavy to carry any longer, some say up to 30 pounds or so. They also offer the option of putting your baby/toddler in different positions, not just one position; you can carry it in different positions as well so if your right shoulder gets tired, move it to yoru left, or hang your baby from your back instead of your front all in one little device. Sorry this sounds like a sales pitch. s. Baby Borjn carrier I was just wondering if anyone knows if a baby can be comfortable in a carrier with their casts on. Guest guest
I'm no doctor but I wouldn't think it would be the best. The feet should be elevated whenever possible. Casts lend to swelling and dangling straight down might increase the swelling. Just my two cents. Guest guest
I've been lurking for the last week or so, and have had similar questions. Last week I had an ultrasound at 18 weeks, and found out I'm having a girl with bilateral clubfeet. My first daughter was carried in a variety of carriers including slings and a pouch. I'm very interested to hear how the DBB affects how you carry the child. I'm just imagining the bar banging into parts of my body. I'd love to see some photos if they can be posted somewhere of a baby with casts or DBB being slung. > arfazzina arfazzina@...> wrote: > > I was just wondering if anyone knows if a baby can be comfortable in > a carrier with their casts on. Guest guest
We did not use our Baby Bjorn carrier when was in casts. Probably b/c we didn't have one yet. I did use it while she was in her brace 23/7. The Baby Bjorn carrier is the only one that I know of that you can use while the baby is in the brace. There may be one out there but I'm not sure. was always very comfortable in the front carrier even with her brace on.
