Guest guest
US DOE has sent a report on MCS to all state directors of sped, among others, on multiple chemical sensitivity, recognizing this as a disability that may effect up to 15% of the population. The report is from the Arizona Technology Access Program. To read it: link under " What's New " on the OSEP website: http://www.ed.gov/OFFICES/OSERS/OSEP or link it directly at http://www.nau.edu/~ihd/aztap/mcs.html. This report is an excellent handbook on the symptoms, causes, triggers and treatments for MCS. The list of symptoms reads like it came from our egroup: autoimmune disorders, disorientation, food intolerances, yeast infections, learning disabilities, behavorial problems, etc. The report lists causes (including antibiotics, DEET, cleaning products, formaldehyde, etc.) and triggers (including flourescent lights, artificial flavors, colors, and preservatives, medications, etc.). Treatments include allergy testing, detoxing, nutritional programs, & chelation. I suggest printing off this report & giving it to everyone involved in your next IEP. Considering that this report is being circultaed by US DOE (hardly a hot bed of revolutionary thought), it should make the local sped guys pay a bit more attention to our kids' needs. Oh, let's drop some copies off with our doctors, too!
