Guest guest
Hi, Naomi went for her orthotic appt this a.m. for new shoes... and our ortho put in the requisite for a new bar as well. Now Naomi has this red bar that they had to add a piece into because he said the bars do not go bigger than 12 inches and she needs almost 13... I thought I've read on this board that you can get 14 inch bars or adjustable ones... am I right about that?? I don't like how this one looks, he cut the bar, added some aluminum and screwed it on... is this normal?? At the rate she's growing, she's going to have a lot of aluminum added on in the next 2.5 years!! Maureen Naomi (Feb 11/04) bcf
Guest guest
Maureen, the red adjustable bars are two pieces that overlap in the centre and then are secured by two clamps. When you adjust it, you just loosen the clamps and then slide the pieces out so that the bar becomes longer. We have the red adjustable bar (9 " -14 " , I think) but since the end of November when I had widened it, it was at it's limit and could not be widened any further. Our orthotist took two pieces of aluminium and added them to each end of the bars (they're riveted on). Now his bar, at the narrowest width, is just a bit wider than his shoulder width but Owen adjusted to it without batting an eye. There is a picture of the modified brace posted in the photo section at the CFPics group. It is in the file titled Foot Abduction Braces. Maybe your orthotist can modify yours so that it becomes adjustable - all you would need are the clamps. Oh, and it costed me a whopping $10 to get the brace modified!
