Guest guest
Interesting about the vitamin C and weight loss. The doc who I only see once in a while but diagnosed our MELAS recommended both my son and I take 4000 mg of vitamin C per day. I was very good about it and took the chewable kind from sams club for a while, then from puritans pride and off and on ester C. But lately I have been lax in it. I know it is not good for me especially with everyone where I work and my son and husband getting sick. Funny, up till two years ago I caught everything that went around and could not seem to get rid of a cold for about a month or two and the flu always hit me hard. Now I almost always have a runny nose but have managed to not get the flu except one night last week I could not keep food down. I think I may check into the Yasmin, maybe get it later. I was on the birth control pills until 1990 when I wanted to become pregnant--never had any trouble that I noticed and no weight gain. I was 28 years old then and 120 lbs! The one nurse practiioner in the ob/gyn area of the clinic I go to, not my bp said she would not let me go on the patch or pills again because my blood pressure is slightly elevated and there is a risk of strokes. I mainly choose the depo because of the lack of menstrual periods which I found wonderful for the 10 years I was on the Norplant. Before I got pregnant, I had very long and painful periods, even was checked for endometriosis. I did not even need any pain medication at my son's birth until his head got stuck at the last 20 minutes since I was basically used to the bad cramps and pains from my periods. For now whenever my husband wants to have intercourse (now he is over the midlife crisis I think and settles for about every 2 weeks on the weekend) I just bought some over the counter birth control at Walgreens. My menstrual periods have not returned since the depo was supposed to wear off in November but my gp says do not rush it, your body has been surpressed for almost 12 years. I am not looking forward to the menstrual periods again but was a little concerned that the otc birth control was not working or the depo had worn off before its so called end date. Last July they were also supposed to do a test to measure where you are at in menapause or something when they did my other bloodwork but I forgot to ask her about that at my December appointment. Well, take care. I just got up and am going back to bed as I got up yesterday at 6:30, drove and hour to work on slippery roads, then worked till 4:30 pm and we met my husbands sister who is here from Michigan and his other brothers and their wives at 6:30 to divide up some things that had gone into storage when they moved his mother into a nursing home last October. Well, we ended staying till 9:30. His mom is doing much better than she had been and actually was awake and very alert and even had alot of witty comebacks to comments we made. She is 84. Anyway, my husband came up in a separate car since the nursing home is 1 1/4 hours from where we live now and it is 45 minutes from where my temp job is but we live the opposite direction so it was foolish for me to drive 1 hr home and then back up with them. Anyway, we did not get home till 12:30 because after we left I decided to drive thru Green Bay (about 15 minutes difference if you drive straight thru) vs simply going the other way thru small towns. Well, we decided to stop at Mcs because we were hungary. Then my son wanted to stop at Walmart Super Center and buy the cats treats. Needless to say we had to walk around the entire store and look at all the toys. He decided after all that walking to buy a deck of trading cards. Tomorrow we have to meet my dad, his girlfriend and my brother in law and his family in Wausau which is about 2 1/2 hours away to exchange xmas gifts. My brother in law's new wife of about 5 years daughter has a gymnastic meet there so for the last 3 years we have been getting together at a restaurant or where my dad is living. Steve & Joyce actually live about an hour from house which is also 3 hours from Wausau. This way it is easier for my dad although he actually does not mind driving down by us or over to Green Bay (2 hours). He and Helen often drive to casinos and take little trips to various parts of Wisconsin or Minnesota or to visit her daughter in Texas. My brother is also in Texas so my brother sees him then. My father is 65 now and for many years ran the family insurance business started by my grandmother with my uncle but now works fulltime at Fleet Farm. She also works but only part time and draws on her husband's pension. They have been together for about 13 years. Her husband died like in 1989, my mother in 1988, my sister in 1996. Anyway, this is long so talk to you later. Janet Sample Re: Diabetes, low carb I was on Depo Provera a while ago, and gained weight on it. I'll be trying Yasmin, which is supposed to not cause weight gain, and actually causes some people to lose weight and clears up the complexion. Depo is progesterone-like only, and Yasmin has both estrogen and progesterone like. I had some problems with the estrogen only ones. One funny thing I just heard is that taking Vitamin C can increase estrogen levels in the blood from bcp, and Vitamin C is sometimes recommended for mito. It's tough managing all these meds, let alone the fact that the doc who prescribes the bcp's isn't familiar with any of my other meds... I gained about 50 lbs. between birth control pills and similar hormones, the Atkins diet helped me get rid of some of that. It's so funny I was 113 lbs. at 5'6 " in H.S., and I'd be happy to be back at 140 lbs. My pediatrician was telling me to gain weight when I was 113 lbs., I think I did too good a job Take care, RH > > > > > > >
