OT-growth spurt on GFCF diet-celiac question

Hello,

We started on the gfcf diet in early January, and two of our 3 sons

showed a big jump in growth during the first four weeks. One grew 5/8 "

and one grew just under 1/2 " . They were all tested for celiac disease in

the fall. They all had elevated anti-gliadin Igg's and negative Iga's

for gliadin and negative endomysial antibodies. We also had the child

who we thought was most likely to have asymptomatic celiac disease(due to

his short stature) tested for serum Iga to make sure we weren't getting a

false negative. His serum Iga was normal. Our pediatrician feels that

this rules out celiac for us. But we have a family friend who is

gastroenterologist that works with adult celiacs. He told us that it is

very likely that the boys showing the growth spurt have celiac disease

inspite of the negative tests for antigliadin Iga and endomysial

antibodies.

He recommended that we have intestinal biopsies for all of them, but

added that the procedure is not without risk. My husband does not want

to do this in light of the lab test results and my pediatrician feels it

is unnecessary. The gastroenterologist does not believe that a

child would have this kind of a growth spurt without celiac disease.

Has anyone here seen this type of a growth spurt in their child after

starting the gfcf diet? I would really appreciate any input. And if

anyone has dealt with any similiar issues *please* contact me. My head

is spinning with wanting to do the right thing and not knowing what it

is.

Thanks so much,

Jolene
