Guest guest
I just had a battery of tests done and I know that I do in fact have myasthenia gravis----with the possibility of mitochondrial----My question is what does pyruvic acid have to do with the scheme of things---as far a mito goes------my tests keep coming back lower and lower and Im now going a little crazy trying to figure things out--- Any help is appreciated----Thank you Lorraine
Guest guest
Lorraine My understanding is that a high pyruvate level is one to be concerned about, although the ratio between lactate and pyruvate is also important. I have many urine organic acids which are low or absent and I have been told over and over not to be concerned about the low values. I'm sure others on the list have additional information on this for you. laurie > > > I just had a battery of tests done and I know that I do in fact have > myasthenia gravis----with the possibility of mitochondrial----My > question is what does pyruvic acid have to do with the scheme of > things---as far a mito goes------my tests keep coming back lower and > lower and Im now going a little crazy trying to figure things out--- > Any help is appreciated----Thank you > Lorraine > > > > > > > Medical advice, information, opinions, data and statements contained herein > are not necessarily those of the list moderators. Guest guest
My lactic acid is either normal or high, and my pyruvate is always very low (10 - 20% of low normal value). Others have had high pyruvate, and been told that's a sign of mitochondrial disease. I think it depends on which complex is damaged whether one has high or low (or normal) pyruvate. I was misdiagnosed with MG, I had a positive tensilon test. They did a single fiber EMG, and that was negative and specific for MG, so they ruled that out. I believe both MG and mito diseases are covered by the MDA, so going to (or staying with) a MDA clinic might be your best bet. I also think my mito disorder is second to another disorder, but that hasn't been proven yet, since my case is pretty odd even for mito cases. MG is autoimmune, so perhaps you could pursue a rheumatologist or immunologist to look into whether another autoimmune condition could be causing mito disease. Guest guest
My pyruvate is high. I know that's a concern. Low may not be.
