Guest guest
Hey all! I'm in a pickle and I'm hoping you will be able to help me. My 4yo ASD son just started his walk-in speech therapy services last week at the public school. But because he is 4, they are requiring him to get his booster shots. I looked into the religious exemption, but I am not part of any of the " recognized " religions allowed to claim this exemption in the state of Texas. The only other exemption available is the medical one--and I'm not sure I will be able to convince the Pediatrician to give him one. We go in on Monday to request it and if she won't grant it, to test his titres. The lab technician informed me however that even if the titres come back in our favor, it won't do us any good. In fact, this lab technician had the nerve to tell me that the boosters are supposed to boost their immunity because it wears off and they need another dose every few years. (I could be wrong but I've never heard of any such thing and if it is true, then why isn't the CDC demanding that all adults get the MMR, DPT, polio, etc. and why don't we have polio and measles outbreaks all of the time? My understanding was that the boosters were to get the 5% of children who don't develop immunity the first time around.) My son really needs this speech therapy so I need to find a way to get around the immunizations issue. Are there any other Texans out there who've gone through this? Is there a website somewhere that would inform me of my rights and options? I welcome any and all help. Thanks, in Houston
