Guest guest
Hi All, Just my 2 cents... I know we're dealing with children who have a special need so to speak, but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends children stay in a crib until 3 years old or they can climb out. I've told this story before, so those of you who've read it before, please disregard! At Zoe's 2 year check up, she climbed onto the doctor's stool, and he said it's time for her to be out of the crib if she can climb that well. She climbed early but walked late... I reminded him that she's wearing the shoes and a metal bar, so there's no way she could climb out. My plan was to keep her in the crib until 3 and transition her to a toddler bed. Well, my sister and friends with older boys were reporting that their children would sleep on the floor (or mom and dad's bed) and refused to use the toddler bed. I decided to skip the toddler bed. About the time Zoe reached 30 pounds, she had difficulty sleeping and it wasn't due to teething or the shoes/bar being too small. I developed a theory that perhaps the crib mattress wasn't giving enough support which could be why the toddler bed didn't work for my friends whose children were over 30 pounds... Just some food for thought. She also wasn't comfortable in the pack n play perhaps because of the lack of support... I just did a google search on crib weight limits, and the Cosco site said the weight limit is 50 pounds for the toddler bed and portable crib (35 " tall), so I guess my theory's off the mark! Oh well. I had always wondered about the limits for the portable crib, so now I know!
