Guest guest
Hello everyone, My name is Jeannie. I'm the mother of three young boys, one of whom was diagnosed at 33 months old with high functioning Autism/PDD. It has almost been a year since his diagnosis. We started the GFCF diet two weeks ago, as soon as I read about it. Wow! After one day started showing signs of improvement. Then I read somewhere (celiac.com I believe) that studies were showing that oats were okay for celiac's. I must have read the info wrong. I made oatmeal pancakes that night and pigged out on them. The next morning he came in and woke his dad and me up. The first thing I said was " sure is spacey. " Then I got up and made him oatmeal for breakfast. After breakfast I KNEW the mistake I made. was messed up. Oh, it was horrible! He was dopier than he's ever been before in his life plus he had a host of other symptoms that I'd never even seen in him before. He didn't improve and I had the irrational fear that I'd done him in. He would never be the same again. He did improve, but only slightly. Then a day or two later I poisioned him again with Chocolate Almond milk. When I got to the place in my book about phenols I got on the computer and found out exactly what they were. I again realized what I had done to my boy. Never have I felt so awful. It's now been a total of 16 days trying to get this diet straight. started showing improvement again yesterday. Today he is talking up a storm. Following me around the house, getting right in my face when I'm not paying enough attention to him. He is looking me right in the eye whenever I talk to him. And to my amazement he is stronger today than he's been in a long time. He still has a way to go but the knowledge that my hands aren't tied, that there is something I can do to aide in my sons recovery... well there aren't any words for how that feels. I look forward to talking with you all, Jeannie
