Guest guest
Hi Everyone, A week ago I sent a fax to my wife's oncologist about the news story that was shown in here last week about the FDA approving the use of Xeloda for Stage 3 colon cancer patients. Today I received a response from the oncologist that said that the FDA had not approved it. This got the old wheels turning and I did some research and found the letter from the FDA that " did " approve the use of Xeloda for Stage 3 (Dukes C) colon cancer. I am going to print the letter out and bring it to him on Thursday when my wife is supposed to begin her regiment of Folfox 6. If anyone is interested here is the link to the letter: http://www.fda.gov/cder/foi/appletter/2005/020896s016ltr.pdf Dan & BTW. is doing fantastic right now, she is gaining weight back and her energy level is better than before the colon resection. Of course I am sure the chemotherapy will affect both of those, but at least she is feeling good now.

Love the way you are fighting for your beautiful wife. So glad she's feeling good right now...enjoy!!! The chemo will probably zap her some, but she sounds strong and determined and quite the little fighter!!! Tell her we are praying for both of you!!! Hang on tight... the roller coaster ride has begun!!! Lots of hugs and prayers, Donelle Caregiver to Glenn
Guest guest
I opened the letter, and what I am understanding is that it has been approved for Stage III when " This new drug application provides for the use of XELODA (Capcitabine) oral tablets as a single agent for adjuvant treatment in patients with Dukes’ C colon cancer who have undergone complete resection of the primary tumor when treatment with fluoropyrimidine therapy alone is preferred. " I have not heard of any on the list getting a single agent therapy for first line chemo in a while. They are getting 5FU, Leucovorin, and Oxaliplatin. Personally, I believe the Oxaliplatin is offering additional benefits over 5FU and Leucovorin. I believe the research supports this as well. FDA approved adding Oxaliplatin to the 5FU regimen in November of 2004 for Stage III. Guest guest
Donelle, Thank you so much. is a fighter. She may only be 4'9 " tall and 75 lbs, but she tougher than hell and she'll let you know it too. As for the doctors, if I didn't do the research into the terms that they use so frequently (to sound intelligent if you ask me) then we wouldn't have a clue what was going on. We recently got copies of all of 's medical records and starting reading and researching everything. So far what they have done is standard operating procedures so we are not yet worried, okay maybe a little. Chemo starts tomorrow and I've got every finger and toe crossed hoping for the best, but will be ready for the worst. I'm here for the long haul... Our prayers go out to you and Glenn. Keep up the good fight!
