Guest guest
Diane Do they know what caused the falls? I think that might be the cause of many of the problems. Since she can't have the drugs to boost her counts what about a transfusion and IVs of iron, potassium etc. Hang in there I'll be praying for you. Guest guest
It's been some time since I posted about my Mom. She's had two treatments with Avastin and the Oxyplatin (spelled wrong)regimen. She noticed she was getting more stomach cramps with this treatment and was wondering if it's from the Avastin? Anyways, when we went in for her third treatment the doctor said her white blood cells were too low so no treatment. She can't have the injections to boost her counts because she had a very serious reaction from that. The next day, she was working outside very slowly since her energy is way down and she tripped and fell flat on her front--right on her swollen abdomen from all the cancer. She was feeling okay the next day and was still able to eat (very little though--not much appetite), but the following day she said she was in so much pain and didn't want to eat anything. We tried to get her to eat and drink anything but she took very little. About a week later, she went outside to water her flowers and fell and hit her head and beat up her shoulder and back-- we weren't there and she was unable to get up and was laying on the ground. Finally some people walked by to help her. She was really out of it and finally the next day she agreed to go to the hospital because she was so weak. The emergency room doctors think my Mom's condition is grim and she won't make it long. Her condition really hasn't changed real much since she saw her oncologist--he knows the cancer is all over in her abdomen and is willing to try different chemos to help her--he sounded hopeful?? Anyway, they drained some fluid from her tummy and have her hooked up to an I.V. for electrolytes. They have her on liquid foods but she won't eat real much of it--she has a heck of a time going to the bathroom too. After they drained the fluid she's complaining of back pain--I don't know if this is from the fall or something else. They give her shots of morphine every hour but she still has pain in her back and tummy. I don't know if these bad falls she has had has caused some of these problems?? I don't know what to think. Also, they found in the fluid they drained that she has a very bad infection--they aren't even sure what it is yet but they have her on antibiotics. Anybody every heard of this and is there hope for her to get better? I'm so scared and worried. Sorry this was so long. Take care everyone. Guest guest
If they have her hooked up to IV for electrolytes they probably have her on other stuff too. As doc told me when I was low on postassium; it is essential for the heart. Is what keeps it pumping.. So luckily the pills worked and I didn't need the IV, while in hospital I had to take magnesium as well. Narice is right, they have to treat the whole patient regardless of the prognosis. Make her comfortable. She could just snap out of it. I saw that when my hubbies electrolytes were low, just that bag of IV set him straight again. He would get whoozy, light headed, do wierd things like reach for something that wasn't there, and stare. He might have been watching tv but more than likely he was just staring into nothing. He fell once outside and cracked his hip. They never really told me if it broke or just cracked. It was hard to get him up. I think I put him on couch for awhile and called ambulance. It has been awhile to memory fuzzy about something. I will keep you and your mom in my prayers.. Wish I had better answers for you. Take care God Bless and big hugs Jolene Oh my dog just went outside and rolled in squirl residue. Stinks to high heaven... I wish he were a cat sometimes so he wouldn't have to go outside. Course then my house would stink of cat residue. LOL..
Guest guest
Damn! I am so sorry. I was on both avastin and oxiliplatin, but NOT together. The oxiliplatin gave terrible neuropathy and I often fell down. Sounds like she is very weak and needs to get stabilized. Hope the onc leaves her alone for awhile until she gets her strength back. What about trots? It was awful for me. And that could also be throwing her off? I am thinking of you!
