Guest guest
Sorry I took so long to reply, I take welchol, a prescription. It ties up fatty acids in the GI tract. It is a cholesterol drug since cholesterol is a fatty acid and this stuff prevents absorbtion of the cholesterol. Anywho, the stuff reaaalllyy helps me out. It keeps the stools from burning too. Metamucil helps the burning stuff also. My old GI doc prescribed the welchol after me griping about the burning, caustic diarrhea for months. Immodium worked also, but nobody ever told me that I could take a dose once or twice a day as a maintainance drug. I wouldn't do that without the doc telling me that it's ok though. I don't know what the potential consequences are. Well, I'd better send this on. Miracles happen! Cliff H. > >>>In my situation, fiber does help me. I cramp and hurt without it. I will try them but start out slowly ... like one today and tomorrow, then up to two the next day, etc.. > What other things do you take, if you don't mind my asking? > > My doctors have begun to get this glazed look when I mention that the diarrhea is still going on. I have tried the Welchol under a different name, but I developed an allergy to it.....tongue turned black, geez, how weird. It didn't help anyway. I know when I had radiation I was told to take 6 to 8 of the Immodium if I needed to. I didn't need to. 2 usually worked. But then the bowel surgery happened and Immodium is like eating candy for me. Even the prescription Lomotil doesn't do anything....(had to stop it, developed swollen feet and hands)....did I mention I am a doctors' worst nightmare!!LOLOL So now what do I do, you may wonder? I'm taking 0.5 ml of tincture of opium twice a day, getting ready to up it to 0.4 ml three times a day and see if spreading it out won't help more. And I'm on a narcotic pain reliever for the nerve damage and it is suppose to be constipating, maybe it helps? Still going 15 o 20 times a day.....over a year of this....it gets SO old. Hubby and I are now looking at trading in our Suburban on a camper conversion van so I can at least ride somewhere. Can't do much after we get there but stay close to the toilet, but at least I could get out of this house. Wishing you the very best and thanks so much, nancy ---------- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus.
