Guest guest
Ruthie I reckon it would take you about 1.25 hours from Brent Cross to BlueWater. Obviously longer on a bad day on the M25. Todman Treasurer, Stansted Branch (R5) Mum to , 3½ (Adding on J27(M11) on the M25 to BrentCross (35 mins) to J27 to Bluewater (40mins) as I've done it J27 to both places but not one to the other, IYSWIM)
Guest guest
How long has Bluewater been open? I've never heard of it until you all started singing it's praises. Guest guest
< > Yes March 1999 I know for certain because my dh works in advertisement and his then company (he has moved since) had the Bluewater account so it was a hot subject in our household as dh was on the account.. I went with a friend of mine 1 week after it had been open (with kids in pushchairs back in the " old " days where we only had one each LOL) and had a great day as did the kids who just loved watching everything.. And Yes Girl Heaven has closed.. as has Bath and bodyworks ;o( (I liked that shop) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Re: Bluewater > Hi all > > Ruth - Bluewater would take a while to get to. HOW long, do you reckon? From Brent cross, cos I am literally *there*. You make it sound more like a day trip, and I don't know whether a shopping mall comes under the heading of suitable destinations for day trips! Ruthie > > Last week I did a TOUR of shopping places. Just please tell me again exactly what exit on the M25 it is? Ruthie
Guest guest
bluewater is nicer than some shopping malls (it is new so it should still be a bit nicer: cleaner, less worn out etc) but it is just another shopping mall at the end of the day. It is no more soulful than other malls and doesn't have any more choice than other malls (ok so it has more instances of each class of shop, but as all members of a class sell the same old stuff (broadly speaking) this doesn't increase choice). It suffers from the same problem that all out-of-town developments do of not supporting local shops (important from a social/community point of view and also because they are the only thing left on our increasingly identikit high streets that do actually increase choice and often provide much better service because they can respond to customer needs). We'll get the society we deserve eventually... ooh that feels better now james

Even the kids love it and consider it a treat to go there. Suits me! Lorraine Mum to 10, Natasha 8, 5, ph

On the other hand, the little businesses on the net *do* for me represent what people talk about when they hark back to a mythical golden age of small shop shopping. -- jennifer@... Guest guest
I can see attractions in both really - with a pushchair/pram the malls are easier to get around - but they are pretty souless and over busy places. Our local shops are fab - 5 minute walk and you can just about get everything you want - they even just expanded and updated Budgens, and it has a proper butcher, flower shop, lovely card shop and one of those hardware shops that sell nuts and bolts individually - parking is free and they even have an organic cafe! I know not everyone is as fortunate of course.
