Guest guest
Hello. I just joined the group because my husband just had a polyp removed during a colonoscopy which came back as cancerous. He is 62. He will be having a colon resection in a couple of weeks to take out the affected part of the colon and the surrounding lymph nodes to see if the cancer has spread. We are both very scared. I feel like this is the end of life as we knew it. How bad is the surgery? The doctor gave us a booklet and it doesn't sound fun. My husband is terrible with stuff like this -- he has never had surgery before. Also, I think he is scared he will end up with a colostomy and have to wear one of those bags. Any advice on how I can deal with this? I'm trying to be positive and supportive, but frankly I am scared to death. I am trying to take one day at a time, but I can't help thinking ahead and wondering what if it's spread, what if I lose him, what if ... ? Please help.
