Seems strange to link it to a school year, since Catholicism is practised all over the world and no one else has the same school years as the UK. It seems like France does it even earlier, but that might just be my BIL and SIL's enthusiasm for getting my nieces and nephews taking comunion earlier. Not a Catholic, though, Phyllis __________________________________________________

My daughter (October birthday so 8 1/2) has just done hers last month. My son also did his in year 3 and as far as I know it is continuing like this. My DS2 will only be 7 3/4 when he does his in 2 yrs time because he is late July birthday. Lorraine Mum to 10, Natasha 8, 5, ph
Guest guest
I can only tell you when I had mine ..... 8 years old. I was in what was then called Class 4 (1st year Juniors) - is that the same as Year 4?. As far as I know the same church carries on with the same age. I always thought it was around 7/8 years old - leaving it to almost 10 seems to late to me. Janet First Holy Communion in Catholic churches > Our new priest says the children should be in Year 4. Guest guest
In Wantage, well, the Catholic parish of Hendred, they do First Communion at the end of Year Three. We worship at the Anglican parish church, which is very high church. Children discouraged from confirmation before Year Four, but lots of children do go through the confirmation class when they are in Year Four.
