Guest guest
sorry if you have recently discussed this subject, but wanted to get your expert advice. How do you know if baby is ready to wean? My 15 week old baby is still gaining half a pound a week (which he has done since birth, and is just breastfed), he sleeps 12 hours a night. He makes chewing actions when he watches me eat, but thats the only sign I have seen. My HV says to start weaning at 16 weeks, but I am not sure of the disadvantages of this. I want to start, purely selfishly because I think it sounds like fun! Has anyone got any thoughts on this. I really want to know what the 'signs' are that my book refers to! Personally - I'm holding off until six months (if she gets mobile enough to snaffle before then, then so be it). I was bullied into introducing DD1 to solids at 12 weeks with all the same 'signs of readiness' (in 1995 - I came to my senses a few days later and we stopped again until she stole a bit of rice about 6 weeks on) and I'm sure that this was a contributory factor in her allergies/excema. Don't know the HV's standpoint on this - I haven't heard hide nor hair from her since DD2 was 3 weeks old -- Helen Armfield helen@... Guest guest
Yes, Euan is 10 weeks old now and this time I'm going to try and hold out until he's six months old, but we'll see how it goes. I gradually started my other two off on baby rice at about 15/16 weeks, which they enjoyed, but they do both have eczema as well, so this time I will do things differently..... I have started each one of mine later than the previous one so as to put off that gloop in hair, gloop on floor stage for as long as possible. Isn't this true of most aspects of bringing up children. 1st week of potty training was quite amusing - heaven only knows how I managed to keep it up for the next 3 weeks before reverting to nappies. I always wondered why my friends didn't mind me feeding their children. totally mind numbed
Guest guest
DS 1+ 2 had solids fairly early but DS3 although he had solids they were solids - he used to steal food off the other two. So rather than mashed banana, etc. he was weaned with slices of pizza, etc.! He eats fine and has the appetite of a horse, and is extremely healthy. Not sure I would recommend it but it worked for him! Trisha SAHM to 3 boys
