Guest guest
Speaking of spreading the word, I need some help. I have a few bullheaded co-workers that don't understand how critical a screening can be. Maybe down the road if the chemo hits me worse, they will see a small piece of what one has to go thru. In the meantime, I am on my little crusade to get some of these folks to the doc. I know there are several of us out there, under 50 that have been diagnosed. I am wondering if you would send me a brief summary of you with your age and diagnosis that I could share with these stubborn ones to convince them that they should not wait until they are 50 for a screening. You can send to my personal email wilkinsondjm@... and then we won't bog down the message board. I just think if they can see some real stories, that will hit home. Maybe we should all send these to the President for Priscilla too! Any help would be appreciated. Hugs and prayers, donna Priscilla Savary psavary@...> wrote: Thanks Jolene. And I hope what I said didn't feel like scolding. It is your campaign, everyone's campaign, whether we claim ownership or not. 365 people a day die from this cancer. Those lives demand justice. And justice is using the tools that we have that will enable us to end this cancer. Will we end it? Not entirely. There will always be people who do not take proper care of themselves. Look at the fact that we beat polio in this country back in the late 50s early 60s. Yet now there are a few cases popping up again because some parents are chosing not to have the polio vaccine given to their kids. But it is possible to never have another polio victim. And that is also possible with colon cancer - if screening is mandated to be available for all adults. Yesterday I sent out a bracelet order for a wedding that is coming up. Instead of wedding favors they decided to honor a family member who lost their battle with colon cancer by giving every guest a colon cancer bracelet. That is so cool. I also accepted a donation from a Kindergarten class whose teacher beat colon cancer this past school year. Those little ones raised $275 to honor their teacher. And I cried when I read the letter. All people have power. These children naturally accepted that and did a great thing. We all have power too. All the power we need to end colon cancer. Its different with most cancers. The researchers don't know what most cancers look like before they are cancer. The screening for most cancers is not any where near as effective and accurate as a colonoscopy (and now virtual colonoscopy - even though the medical community is slow to accept the research that demonstrated that). We have the tools. They found the answer. But they will not be able to make this happen without us. All the insurance companies and PACS in the world will not be able to stop a determined bunch of people doing the right thing. And it is the right thing. 56,000 lives lost each year that we together can save by joining forces and demanding this change. For once in our lives we have an opportunity to save 56,000 lives. Guaranteed. Not many will ever be able to say that. You're gonna look at your grandkids someday and say " The ending of colon cancer? Yeah kid. I was there. " Priscilla A. Guest guest
Definitely send them to President Bush! His eyes need opening on this. Sharing the stories might not work with your co-workers. Plan a campaign that starts with humor. Make up some signs like the old Burma Shave signs and put them along the path they have to walk to get to their desk. Do this for a couple of weeks. Then try the stories - but with pictures. Priscilla A.
