Guest guest
> The Queen is coming to tea next Friday....well not exactly with us, but the girls being Brownies have been asked to line the road when she goes to an afternoon reception they need to be there from 1.30 to 4.00 now I have a problem as DH is being presented, along with the rest of the LB crew to the Duke in the morning, now there is only so much waiting about that DD2 can tolerate and when she gets bored she can be a real monkey. The dilemma is do I push them to attend the afternoon on the grounds that is possibly the only time they will see the Queen or go and spend a lovely time with their cousins who are only here for a few more days?<< I'd be inclined to take them to see the Queen. Their cousins will presumably be around in the future at other times but this might be the only chance in their lives to ever see the Queen. I know how hard it is to wait around with young ones - how old is she? If she is a brownie too then she must be at least 7 which should be capable of standing around for a while. If all the brownies are there then they will at least have all their friends to chat to. If your dh is being presented then I'd say its unmissable really. Couldn't the cousins come too? Wouldn't they like the opportunity to see the Queen? Lorraine, Mum to 10, Natasha 8, 5, ph

Our religion has a special blessing to say on seeing a monarch, and most of us never get a chance to say it in our lifetime. So if there is any chance of getting to say it, we would take that opportunity! DH and I said it once, probably about 30 yrs ago,or more, when the Queen came to a local cinema (I can't remember why.) We waited in the rain with our babies for ages just for the chance to say that very special blessing. I'm very embarrassed to say that on another occasion we went to the circus when Beadle was the ringmaster and he played a practical joke on the audience. Someone who looked so much like the Queen that everyone was taken in, came sneaking in during the performance, and sat ringside with an appropriate entourage. I nudged Dh and said " That's the Queen!! say the blessing! " But he didn't believe me, until announced her arrival and she received all the circus troop who stood in a respectful row bowing and curtseying. Then ph and I, and the kids, all said the blessing. On our way out we heard that it was a windup, and that she appeared every night. I have never felt such a fool. LOL. Ruthie

Then we will have to rush to other side of Island along with assorted others for girls to be on parade - the cousins being visitors are not included in any invitations/ requests. The girls would be on parade from 1.30 to 4.00pm Now I know that there may be something planned to entertain them but DD2 is a pickle, I won't be there to keep a eye on her and knowing her attention span to be the equivellent of a fleas - I tending towards the morning session and hitting the beach with the cousins in the pm as this may be their last visit for some time. Around that time the Queen came to Wimborne (memorable cos the railway station was re-opened for the Royal Train, after 7 years of being closed & derelict). Rather than brave the crowds in town, we stood on the verge at the approach to a double bend on the route, where we knew they would drive v slowly & we`d have a good view. Must have been Whitsun bank hol mon (cos it was school sports day). Barbara
