I also read some where that seltzer water is good? Also baking soda. I asked

the nurse tonight hosting the support group, and she said the same thing...

drink lots of water and moderate exercise. Thank you for your advice... How

long now has it been since chemo.. and what chemo regiment were you on?

I just wanted to congratulate you on your last chemo this Wednesday. How

wonderful!!

After my last chemo I tried to drink lots and lots of water. I personally

think there is nothing better than water to cleanse your body.... and I don't

even like it:) but I drink it.

You are most welcome:)

I did not have colon cancer so my chemos were entirely different than what

anyone else here has had.

I had uterine cancer, stage 3C. Diagnosed Oct 2003, finished all treatments

April 2004, emergency bowel resection due to radiation damage June 2004.

I had 28 whole abdominal radiation treatments and then was scheduled for six

chemos, three weeks apart, of adriamycin and cisplatin. I made it through four

of those. We had to cancel the last two. I had reached my toxicity level on the

cisplatin drug. I had bottomed out to the point of needing a wheelchair ,

couldn't continue walking.

They did CT scan and everything was satisfactory for me to quit.

I'll never forget what it was like to not see colors anymore. Everything was

gray. I remember laying in bed and thinking how much trouble it was to breathe.

How much easier it would be to just not do it. that's when I knew I was fading

fast. I told them I would not live through chemo number 5. guess they took me

seriously, huh??LOLOLOL

wishing you the very very best........*raising my glass to you*

Did I tell you that both of my sons work at an airport???:)

Dear ,

Glad to hear that you are doing better and thank you for sharing your

experiences with us.

My dad has stage 4 colon cancer -- he will start radiation (every day for 4

weeks) in addition to his Avastin/Xeloda chemo regimen. He has a large

abdominal met near the skin surface on his right abdomen -- the mass causes lots

of pain. His doctors think radiation with high level xrays will help shrink

this mass.

What kind of radiation did you have? Where was the radiation given? What side

effects did you have?

I don't know anyone who has had radiation since it is not common for people with

colon cancer to undergo this type of treatment.

Kind regards,

Nickie

Dear Nickie,

It is first line treatment for most cancers of the female reproductive organs.

You will be able to find all kinds of info on coping with radiation and side

effects at www.hystersisters.com Yes, it's for women that have hysterectomies,

but go to the Cancer Concerns forum.

The reason I am here, is because I needed info on how to cope with the bowel

problems caused from losing 1/3 of my colon and 30 " of small intestines due to

the radiation damage. The surgeon said my colon looked like plastic wrap you had

stuck a match to.....melted.

so, if you don't mind wading through alot of " woman talk " , you could find lots

of info at that sight:)

My radiation field covered the area from just below my breasts down to.....well,

the top of my thighs:)

I had some radiation burn, but not all that bad. I did have diarrhea but nothing

like what I've been living with for over a year now!! Immodium controlled it

completely through my treatments.

A diet of bland food really helps too. Alot of potatoes, rice, etc.

Has your father had surgery at all? If so, what was removed?

Hey Jay, wow, I didn't realize you were only doihg 6 weeks, you mean I have to

finish my last 7 without you leading the way!!

My Kinesiologist had me get something called Sonne which is a detox liquid from

health food store. I have been taking that on occasion throughout treatment,

usually my off week, He also told me that the commercial foot massages are a

type of detox or find a chiropractor or kinesiologist that offers " foot baths " .

They are kind of weird but what they hell..... Then a nutritionist told me to

buy Flor-Essence (sp) and follow those directions and take with water.

Add deep breathing with exercise or a chi machine (on ebay) is also what I have

been advised of.

Good Luck, keep us posted. So happy you are done with this crap!!

hugs and prayers, donna

Hi ,

I haven't been writing that much and just wanted to say hello. I have monster

family problems right now this time between my one daughter and the team of her

sister and grandmother.

The grandmother has been vicious to her and has broken her heart. I just

don'tunderstand people.

Take care,

Karima (who is doing her life one day at a time)

Karima: I stopped taking it (ESSIAC) when I started this round of chemo. I

plan on resumming immediately after this next round of chemo. Which I am

DREADING... I can already taste it in my mouth... but hopefully it will be the

last one!

Donna: Yes... I had done two complete rounds of Xeloda prior to this FOLFOX

round. And because all numbers are still coming up negative, we are doing this

round only as a precautionary measure. Nip it in the bud sort of speak.

I believe FlorEssence is the same as Essiac, but at a better price! I will

check out the CHI machine and Foot Bathes.

Thanks for all the good advice.

Oh... For anyone else that bought the CANCER SUCKS shirt, please wear it, and

zap me a picture.
