Guest guest
mouth sores (search the archives for canker sores or mouth blisters) are not uncommon in autoimmune disease. I was getting them really bad until I switched to a natural toothpaste or biotene toothpaste without sodium laurel sulfate or whatever that is. mouth sores can also be a sign of food allergy mouth sores can also be a sign of lupus (though I doubt that is your problem). be careful of nose sprays - some of them kill all the cilia in your nose and it will never come back. I will only ever use a saline spray now that I've learned about that little tidbit. Pam B.
Guest guest
Hi, I was treated last week for thrush, first time I have ever even heard of it, and I am not on any meds yet.....??? That is weird....and no one has given me an explanation,so I wonder if it has to do with my hyperthyroid. Jen
Guest guest
Hi Sandy - I had mouth sores (little white patches that were tender) as well as coated tongue. Like , it was diagnosed as mouth thrush. At the same time I was having a lot of intestinal discomfort, probably due to an infestation of candida or some other intestinal parasite. I learned that by the time it shows up in the mouth, you've usually got a problem going on with the entire digestive system. This may or may not be your problem, but it is something to consider. I was given a round of Nystatin - an antifungal med. At the time I was having the problem, my thyroid levels were too low, due to too much ATD for my needs. When was the last time you had your FT4 and FT3 tested? If you are taking too much PTU, it can cause these kinds of problems, such as over-growth of candida, non- healing wounds, etc, because of the lowered body temperature that is a result of low thyroid/metabolism. The normal 98.6 degree temps help to curb these types of infestations. If the body temp is lower, it's easier for the bad guys to set up house. Just some ideas. As was suggested, get your white blood cell count checked. If it is low, that also could be a sign of your PTU dosage being too high for your needs. Since they have to draw blood for this anyway, request/demand a check on your Free thyroid levels. When you are first starting out on ATDs, it's very important to check your levels frequently to get the proper dosage FOR YOUR SYSTEM! Best Wishes, Chris > Okay, I just thought I would ask about mouth sores. I searched the > archives. Noone has said anything to me about the mouth sores. My > immune system must be shot by now. Guest guest
Also, an overdose of ATD will cause immunity to be lowered too much - as ATDs are " immuno-suppressants " which is how they help curb the anti-thyroid and anti-TSH antibodies. You must strike a delicate balance here - enough immune system suppression to curb the antibodies, but not so much that the immune system can't fight parasites, bacteria, viruses, etc. If your white blood cell count is low, it will probably just mean that you need to lower the PTU amount. Hope I got it all this time......... Granny - Sluggish Spice
Guest guest
-I go on Dec.6th. for my blood tests. I go to endo on Dec.14th. I just went about 2 wks.ago when she took me off of 1 inderal. Could it all go wrong in 2 wks. I am really tired too like it is almost too hard to stay awake. Guest guest
Sandy - You said: >>>>just went about 2 wks.ago when she took me off of 1 inderal. Could it all go wrong in 2 wks. I am really tired too like it is almost too hard to stay awake.<<< It isn't all going " wrong " in 2 weeks. The PTU is doing what it is supposed to do! It is lowering the new production of thyroid hormone. If you are feeling hypO, that means you have run out of the existing hormone that was circulating in your system (which the PTU can't do anything about). You should be able to call the doc and test right now, and make the dosage adjustment right now, before you go any more hypO. You didn't say what your results were 2 weeks ago, but you are obviously having hypO symptoms NOW! You haven't been on the PTU that long. At some point the excess, already produced and stored hormone (that the PTU does NOT affect) will be used up. Then the newly produced hormone, that has been reduced by the PTU, will be what your body is using. If there is not enough hormone for your needs, you WILL go hypO. YOU HAVE PROBABLY REACHED THAT POINT NOW. WHY WAIT TO TEST? Why wait until you go even more hypO because the PTU dosage is NOW too high? This is the point we keep talking about. This is the point when you need to adjust your meds downward. THIS IS WHY FREQUENT TESTING, AND GETTING THE RESULTS IN A TIMELY MANNER IS VERY IMPORTANT WHEN FIRST STARTING THE ATDS! I remember that this dr office is not very cooperative, so you will have to call and DEMAND testing NOW, and be able to lower your PTU, before you you go even more hypO. If they refuse and want to make you wait, then tell them you might risk myxedema coma and they don't want that on their plate. Can you say " lawsuit " ? It's up to you how much effort you want to put into this. If you want to wait around until Dec 6th to get tested, then wait another week for them to give you the results, you could be very miserable by then. And PLEASE make sure you get the Free T4, and even the Free T3 tested if you can. Don't let them go by just the TSH to determine PTU dosage. That's just plain stupid, but it happens all the time. Take charge here! Chris
Guest guest
--Thanks Granny, What would I do without you and this group. I called the doctor. The nurse is going to call me back. I am so sleepy. My dermatologist is putting me on Omnicef(300mg.) and Bactroban Ointment (22mg.) Says I may have staph infection. Whoopee. Maybe this will cure the rash on my chest and upper torso I have had for about 9mo. Folliculitis or something. I guess the medicine is for just in case. Guest guest
-Well You will love this. I got a call from the nurse about 5hrs.after calling. The doctor has 3 offices and was not at her office I usually go to. She will call me back tomorrow when she looks at my folder. Scanners would be nice. Anyway I feel so exhausted. Can I eat more iodine today to go back more hyper if I am now going hypo. Caffeine, anything? The list of hypo pertaining to slug pretty much describes it but the PTU sheet from doctor said to watch for weakness. The nurse said there is a difference. Well, I feel like a weak slug. So which category would I fit in. Hard to type even. Sandy -- In graves_support@y..., " Sandy " wrote: > --Thanks Granny, What would I do without you and this group. I called > the doctor.
