Guest guest
Thanks Chris! I am excited, especially since my toes are not numb today! Do you think it's too soon for the effects of the meds to be out of my system? Or maybe it's just because of the timing of my cycle I'm a little more hyper than the rest of the month and that is why? I think it may be time to reduce my L-Carnatine a bit more too now that I have the beta gone... hate to waste normal numbers on feeling hypo if you know what I mean. Have you started taking the hawethorne berry yourself yet? Let me know how it goes when you do. I cut my beta back by 5mg at a time - took about a week each time, and got into a bit of trouble when I tried to speed things up... but it worked out ok anyway. Good luck! Pam B. Diagnosed 12/01 (hyper with both graves and hashimotos ABs) Mostly Alt Med - doing MUCH better. Numbers very close to normal and ABs going away. My story: http://www.webmosaics.com/thyroid/ If you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.
Guest guest
Pam, I've been looking in the archives for info on L-Carnatine and GD, haven't found much. What is its effect? Guest guest
>>> I've been looking in the archives for info on L-Carnatine and GD, haven t found much. What is its effect? <<<< Hi Terry, L-Carnatine is great when you are hyper because it blocks the use of T3 at the cell level. So you aren't using the T3 and you feel better. The problem is that your Total T3 just sits around in your body with nothing to do and your labs will NOT show how you are actually feeling -they wont match up with your symptoms. IE. if you take too much for the amount of hyper you are, you will feel hypo. It helps fight depression, body builders use it, and I've even heard it cures bels palsy. Here is a link to some great info: http://community.healthgate.com/GetContent asp?siteid=iHerb&docid=/tnp/pg000204 Specifically for us: " Hyperthyroidism Enlargement of the thyroid (goiter) can be due to many causes, including cancer and iodine deficiency. In some cases, thyroid enlargement occurs without any known cause, so-called benign goiter. Treatment of benign goiter generally consists of taking thyroid hormone pills. This causes the thyroid gland to become less active, and the goiter shrinks. However, there may be undesirable effects as well. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism (too much thyroid hormone) can develop, including heart palpitations, nervousness, weight loss, and bone breakdown. A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial found evidence that use of L-carnitine could alleviate many of these symptoms. This 6-month study evaluated the effects of L-carnitine in 50 women who were taking thyroid hormone for benign goiter.114 The results showed that a dose of 2 or 4 g of carnitine daily protected participants' bones and reduced other symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Carnitine is thought to affect thyroid hormone by blocking its action in cells.115 This suggests a potential concern: Carnitine might be harmful for people who have low or borderline thyroid levels to begin with. This possibility has not been well explored as yet. " That link should answer most of your questions! Pam B.
