Guest guest
Joanne As a kid I slept with 4 (yes four) pillows (nearly sat upright lol) and I could not get enough of them. When I visited my father he and his wife had these completely flat and HORRIBLE pillow';s and I always had problems sleeping with them then as I got older and I had some back problems (long story will skip here) I had to go down and until last September slept with 1 quite puffy pillow well then the girls and I was in a car crash and I had a whiplash injury and because of that and till today I now sleep with one of those flat and horrible pillow's that my dad used to have when I was a kid... I cannot sleep on a high pillow as it hurts my neck.. DD1 just adores pillow's and I think she got one in her bed shortly after or before her 1st birthday because she actually tried to get one in there. dd2 has had one for a long time (she is 1.5) and they both seem rather attached to them. dd1 has just got her first " grown up " pillow so she is very happy but dd2 is still on the flat baby pillow.. My father always said that it is better to sleep with a really flat one or none at all. I have had to eat my words about him knowing nothing ( I was 12 at the time LOL) I think he was right at least I don't have a problem now when dd's steals my pillow (they ALWAYS end up in our bed lol) sorry didn't really answer what you asked did I?? ;o) Lonnie Phoebe & Eloisa's mama & expecting a Christmas delivery... My therapist told me the way to achieve true inner peace is to finish what you start. So far today, I have finished 2 bags of chips and a Chocolate cake. I feel better already. Guest guest
I introduced a pillow at about 18 months as DS was sleeping badly. Seemed to do the trick at the time, although now he is nearly 2 he rarely uses it and it is always at the opposite end of the cot. Guest guest
My mum has awful neck problems - seen all sorts of specialists. They all say the same. Much better for you to sleep without one. My DS actually asked for a pillow just after he was 3. Rather than give him a proper pillow - we made one from the offcut from a 4.5tog single quilt that we had cut to make a quilt for his cot bed. So it's really thin (hardly worth having). He hasn't noticed it isn't the same as ours, he's just pleased that he has one. Guest guest
Hi Joanne > DS sleeps in his cot in a sleeping bag (no pillow) and seems perfectly happy > like that - so I'm thinking about not bothering with a pillow. > What do you lot think? - when did you introduce a pillow and why? We introduced a pillow as a way of trying to wean Mari out of her sleeping bag and under a quilt complete with pillow, i.e. 'big girls bed' ... but she's still in her sleeping bag but now always has a pillow too! Mammy lost that one again If I remember there was another reason for introducing a pillow - I think it was to raise her head when she had a cold - but this can just as easily be down by putting something under the legs of the cot/bed or under the mattress. I think that if he's happy then there is no need, despite what I've done Jenni (& Gethyn) 17yrs, Mari 3yrs (HB), Babi Bach exp.09/2001
Guest guest
DS1 sleeps with a few pillows and a couple of cushions for good luck - usually because he has been sat in bed reading! He must have had a pillow when he went into a big bed at about 18 months. DS2 sleeps with a large cushion, but also has a Winnie the Pooh pillow that he never uses. He also must have had a pillow from about 18 months. DS3 (poor child) still sleeps flat out on his front and has never asked for a pillow so never got one! Hard life been a 3rd child. DH & I fight over who has the nice pillows and who does not. I always win this argument. Trisha SAHM to 3 boys
Guest guest
I'd been wondering about this as well - particularly as Tim likes to play among the cushions on the bed in his room. But for ease I think I'll wait till he's sleeping in it, not playing on it! Anneliese and Toddler Tim Pillows I know that you shouldn't put a pillow with a baby who's under a year - but when do you put one there and why? I ask because I find it uncomfortable to sleep without a pillow, but DS sleeps in his cot in a sleeping bag (no pillow) and seems perfectly happy like that - so I'm thinking about not bothering with a pillow. What do you lot think? - when did you introduce a pillow and why? And do we even need a pillow? Guest guest
> I know that you shouldn't put a pillow with a baby who's under a year - but when do you put one there and why? I read recently that you can introduce a pillow from one but it should be no thicker than the distance between the child's shoulder and ear i.e. so that their head lies naturally, their spine straight if they are one their side. This makes sense to me as their heads are so big when they are little that they don't need the same support, IYSWIM. DD goes to sleep on a pillow but slides off it within a ocuple of minutes. DH can't sleep without one. I go to sleep off my pillow, face down, and usually wake up using it, and on my side! -- Sue

It is a childs pillow so quite small and flat. Once the pillow was needed for a younger child then the older one went onto a normal pillow at about 4/5 yrs. For about the first 6 months of introducing a pillow, none of mine actually slept on it at all.
