Guest guest
's post Sunday Dec. 1 2002 (Message # 1607) http://story.news.yahoo.com/news? tmpl=story&u=/uclickcomics/cx_tmcap_uc/latest Thanks Sam! Just got back late last night from my vaction, trying to catch up... The Board used to be configured to accept e-mail attachments....then one day some unkind individual put up a virus attached to their first and only blank post (it must have been intentional) and I realized something had to be done quick. So I diddled with the board settings and changed them to (1) " attachments not permitted " (translation: Yahoo will allow the text message to go thru but not attached files. This guarantees you will NEVER get a virus as a result of being on this list!) and (2) " only members can post " while maintaining " public archives " (translation: anyone can read the posts, member or no - very important to keep the group " open " so new people feel welcome here). Because of the virus problem, I don't see any way around the " no attachments " setting. I felt somewhat reluctant about the " members only " posting thing, because (besides being a libertarian at heart and hating to have to " join " BBs to post on general principles!) I know some people have had problems posting even though they thought they were members (please e-mail me if you are having trouble, I can usually talk you thru it!), and some could have misinterpreted as their posts being " censored " . Such is NEVER the case! While obvious vendors and sellers (people without cancer attempting to profit from us, MLM marketing schemes and such usually promoted by individuals without a clue regarding cancer) will find a chilly reception from me and others (and WILL be e-booted outta here LOL!), this is a completely open board for patients/caregivers and ALL viewpoints are welcomed. Please feel free to mention anything you want, including specific products/commercial sites if you'd like to discuss! Anyway, the reason for this second change in settings was to try to stop what appeared to be growing spam and assorted trash - spammers in general will do " easy " stuff such as post on a public board you don't have to " join " , and the more blocks you put in their way the less likely they are to be dedicated enough to overcome them. Seems to have worked so far! I apologise for any difficulties or misunderstandings these changes may have caused, hope this explanation will help clarify! Thanks again for your cartoon Sam!
