Guest guest
I'm not in the position to give you any advice, being inexperienced in your medications. I was on Tapazole for 14 months, never took beta blockers, and was totally unfamiliar with the third. I will suggest that you print out responses, articles from Elaine's site that may seem relevant, etc. and get a highlighter and start highlighting, writing in margins, etc. It took me so long for info to sink in and it will be a relief and worth the struggle to get your thoughts organized. As Pam said, if you've been untreated for so long you will likely have muscle weakness and not be in the greatest frame of mind. Do take calcium (1200 mg is safe and a good lifelong plan) with at least half as much magnesium. Many calcium supplements come prepared in this 2:1 ratio. Were you on the lexapro (an anti depressant, is it) already? If it was just one of the things a dr. threw your way before the Graves diagnosis you might want to consider weaning yourself off it because you will start to feel better soon. OTOH, if it is helping you emotionally it could be a valuable tool now as a really debilitating symptom of Graves is loss of emotional perspective. I hope you have a good professional monitoring your use of it. Here's a question for all the Good Gravies out there - I know that if a dr. is prescribing ATDs in preparation for RAI, s/he would prescribe an especially high dose to get the patient stabilized faster. Is there anything along those lines re preparation for surgery?
