Guest guest
I've has some mouth sores and also bleeding gums while on PTU. As Doris said, the first thing is to make sure your white blood cell count is OK to rule out a serious side effect. After checking mine (repeatedly--I've also had a sore throat and swollen glands) I started supplementing with some vitamin A, as I read in Elaine 's " Graves' Disease " that PTU interferes with the body's use of Vit. A. That's helped in my case. Plus we're taking a drug that suppresses the immune system and so are more vulnerable to other problems. For example, my sister is on high doses of prednisone for asthma and as a result has had thrush in her mouth (oral yeast/monilia). Good luck--and it's definitely worth investigating any symptom, even if it seems unrelated to Graves.
