Guest guest
Call her onc immediately or the emergency call number for the onc on call. There is absolutely NO REASON for her to suffer with severe pain. If whatever oral meds she is taking aren't cutting it, they can hook-up a morphine pump. But I strongly suspect that she is getting only a fraction of the dosage that she needs currently. Has she tried lomotil(prescription) for the diarrhea? If not, ask for that at the same time and it should be taken after EVERY stool until it slows down. You are right to worry about dehydration, especially if she is too nauseated to drink fluids or keep them down. Perhaps some IM or IV meds are exactly what she needs to get ahead of this. So CALL that onc & insist on some IMMEDIATE treatment. As to your Dad, he's probably scared & doesn't know how to deal with it, someone else to talk with him(like a friend of his maybe)might help. Cut yourself some slack!!! You need a little pampering yourself so give yourself permission to get away for just 30 minutes and indulge whatever suits you. Be it a bubble bath, a walk, a cup of tea, or a drink, it doesn't matter, but you NEED to do this for your own sanity. I remember what it is like to be the caregiver, I honestly believe that the caregivers are the true survivors of this disease. So, here's a (((((((((HUG)))))))))), now go make that phone call.
