Guest guest
Hi Theresa and welcome. You are in the best place you can be. I see you're going to UofW, where do you live? I live near Portland OR and will be going there too for an evaluation even tho' I was dx 3 years ago. I've been fairly stable until the last few months and decided it was time to go where they specialize in ILDs. How you receive your mail depends on what you will see. Some get mail into their private inbox and some get read from the web page. MamaSher; 70, IPF 3-06, OR. NasturtiumsDon't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Hello and thank you for being here My name is Theresa and I wanted to introduce myself to the group. I am 50 years old (soon to be 51) and was diagnosed with DIP in january of 2008. I am told I need a double lung transplant but to be listed I had to lose close to 90 pounds....i am happy to say that i have lost 65 as of now and quit smoking in the process. I visit my pulmonary doctor this month and will find out what she thinks about my progress. My transplant will be performed at the University of Wa. and i have met with the surgeon once. I am on oxygen 24/7 at 4 litre's. and take about 7 or 8 meds along with nebulizers and inhalers. I have sleeep apnea, depreession, anxiety and lack of energy in general. I used to work as a mental health case manager for an outreach agency but had to retire because of my disability. I miss the activity and people.Hoping to get some replies to this and do more posting as time goes by. One question I have is how do I see pictures or attachments that others send in their messages? Guest guest
Theresa We're sorry you need to be here but happy you are since you do have DIP. It sounds like you're doing an incredible job in preparing yourself for a future transplant. As to seeing pictures that are attached to the posts, I don't see them either because I don't get individual emails. However, there are a lot of photos posted on the web pages under " photos. Guest guest
Theresa, Hi and welcome! You've been around reading for a little while so you're at least somewhat familiar with the way the board works. There are places on the group website where pictures can be posted by members and a file section where there is helpful information posted. As for attachments, the only way to see email attachments is if you receive the board messages as indivisdual emails. Many members set their membership up that way and enjoy it. Others find the amount of email you receive this way is overwhelming. But in the end that's the only way to receive email attachments. If you need help switching your message preferences, please just let me know. Again welcome to the board! Guest guest
Theresa, I am behind in posts so just getting to yours and I am so jealous you live in Forks! Like everyone else I am sooo into Meyer's vampire series. I don't usually like vampire books and neither do my kids but all of us ( sons, daughter, daughter-in-laws) devoured the books this last month and its been all we are talking about. Have you had tons of looky loos about? And has your little town been changed by all the publicity? Take care- R. Guest guest
Theresa, Just read down further and saw all of the answers to my previous questions (lol). First, welcome to our group and second a huge congratulations on losing 65 pounds AND quitting smoking! I was diagnosed three years ago right after my 50th birthday. I was a middle school teacher and adjusting to an early retirement has been hard at times, but overall not having to get up each morning to go to work has been wonderful. I have no clue why I have loved the vampire series so much but I seem to have a lot of company. If you are a reader I definitely recommend them. I live in Carlsbad, just north of San Diego and have the mildest weather in the US. I love love love the sunshine and living close to the beach, but at the moment I am dreaming about the misty forests of Forks! Take care- R. Guest guest
Colleen Penn is a good choice for me. I see Dr Kreider for pulmonary and Dr Ahya for transplant. They tend to be up front, will answer questions and will explain things. The respiratory therapists who do the 6 min walk and PFTs tend to be very knowledgeable, supportive, sensitive and helpful. Even though the disease is negative, my experience at Penn is positive.
