Guest guest
Question: Is it okay to take antibiotics and tapazole at the same time? I've have had a miserable sinus infection for the last 2 1/2 weeks which has gotten worse by the day but I'm not even going to bother to get an appointment if I can't take the medication anyway. On a happier note, my hives, with the exception of a few episodes here and there, have stopped. So now I'm waiting for my next blood test which will be next Wednesday. I'm optimistic that my 30 mg dose (which I stuck to since the hives stopped) will be lowered after the labs come back since I zoomed into the upper end of normal range after 5 weeks on tap. In the meantime I had an appointment with a doctor , a DO, who had treated me so successfully 10 years ago for CFS (or Epstein Barr). It was a " specialty " of his at that time, while most doctors in this country were prematurely dismissing the disease. Anyway, I had a hunch he was proficient in thyroid problems and he might be able to help me this time around, too, as my endo has a great philosophy about ATD's vs. RAI but not opened minded about the TSI test or the importance of the FT4 test. I was happy to hear from him that he does have a following of Graves patients and said he would be more than willing to work with me. The plan is that I still see my endo and he, the DO, will order me the tests that endo won't. He said that he too has no problem with long term ATD use if need be to avoid RAI. So now I feel like I have the best of 2 worlds--I can tap into the endo's long time experience of exclusively working with thyroid patients for the last 45 plus years and at the same time get the tests that are probably " modern " to my endo by the DO. Lastly, I would like to thank all of you out there who have helped me so much in last 2 months. Through your efforts, I have learned alot. I realize that you don't have to waste your time to share your time tested experiences with us but do so help us newcombers, who are like deer frozen by a headlight in the middle of the road when first diagnosed, cross over the other side to wellness and give us the sanity to sort out all the lies from truth that are thrown our way. That's it....have a good night....
Guest guest
> Question: Is it okay to take antibiotics and tapazole at the same time? Hi, . I'm wondering that very same thing, myself. I went to my GP about my flu symptoms (sore throat and general malaise) today and he prescribed Levaquin for Strep Throat. He agreed that agranulocytosis is pretty rare, so that eased my mind on the sore throat issue that my endo had me programmed to watch for. I hadn't been sick all the time I had undiagnosed Graves. Now that we are responding well to the Tapazole, would that explain my strep and your sinusitis, thereby indicating our autoimmune system isn't working overtime? Does that justify our use of the over-prescribed antibiotic? I had really bad hives November 2 on 20mg of Tapazole. I lowered my dose to 15mg and switched to 3x's a day and I'm finally totally itch- free. Now I'm down to 10mg and I'm actually SANDING my tablets! Oh, and BTW, my endo caved and prescribed me more Tapazole (he didn't even know it came in 5mg tablets!) after I wouldn't budge on my NO- RAI stance and my T3 and free T4 dropped to the lower-normal range. Ya-Ya! -- dx 10-15-02 GD 25mg Top + 10mg Tapazole (I'm sanding those suckers)
Guest guest
Hi, , Seems like we are copying each other....diagnosed the same time, hives and now our lovely throat and sinus infections! Looking back, it has been a while since I've had a sinus infection and a dose of antibiotics. I don't know if we had any " protection " from hyped up immune systems before starting the Tapizole but it is interesting. I do know that I was plagued with these sinus infections in the past, prior to when I think I started with Grave's (March). I even wondered if all the antibiotics I've ever taken had anything to do with me getting Grave's. I'm so relieved to have no more hives or welts. What torture! Glad to hear your over them, too. Now I can't wait to get lowered on the Tap. I hope your throat starts feeling better soon. These infections really drag you down. We just came home from a Santa function and while there all I was thinking about was curling up on the couch and closing my eyes which I plan on doing soon in bed! Have a good night! Guest guest
Kristi, Thanks for the reply. I went to the doctor today and started on antibiotics. And yes, I'm very relieved those hives are gone. They were really weird...more like long raised lines which wrapped around my body here and there and gave me hell. It's strange how they made their appearance for a few weeks and then left. Have a good night.
Guest guest
, so glad you're doing better with the hives. I know what a big relief that was for me, when they finally went away. As for the antibiotics...I took some while on tap and everything was fine....it was for a sinus infection too. As I understand it, there are no contraindications for tapazole. Anyway, I would go ahead and go to the doctor. Kristi Re:Tap and antibio./hives gone Question: Is it okay to take antibiotics and tapazole at the same time? We just came home from a Santa function and while there all I was thinking about was curling up on the couch and closing my eyes which I plan on doing soon in bed! How sweet y'are, . We do seem to have tandem cases, don't we? I would buy into your theory on infection-triggered GD...I had UTI's, sinusitis (sp?), all kinds of stuff last winter. I hope your poor sinuses clear up, as well. Do you usually get bronchitis with your sinus infections? I do, along with what feels like sore teeth whenever my sinuses ever acted up. My GP gave me some Levoquin samples to take, once a day. With the Tap & Top and my 3 different dose times, what's another pill? LOL. Have some nice chamomile and a healing weekend on the couch:) ya-ya! -- dx 10-15-02 GD 25mg Top + 10mg Tap(sanded into 3 doses...)
Guest guest
, That's exactly what I had! Weird lines of raised areas. And boy did it itch! I'm glad you got your antibiotics. I just got home from the ER...my son woke up with ear pain and so I took him in. I don't usually go to the ER but he was really hurting and didn't have a fever, which confused me. Anyway, off to bed I finally go. K Re: Re:Tap and antibio./hives gone Kristi, Thanks for the reply. I went to the doctor today and started on antibiotics.
