Guest guest
Hi, I finally got my labs back!!!! FT4 2.14 ,high range 1.76(only # she gave me for range) TSH .007 Is this bad enought to start ATD's? My FT4 was 195 about 4 wks ago, this test wasn't retaken. My Endo personally called me and apoligized for taking so long and losing the tests. She wants me to start taking PTU. 50 mg twice a day,one in morning, one at night. I told her that I have decided against RAI. She didn't sound to excited, but didn't argue either, told to watch closely for fever & sore throat. Many thanks! Guest guest
Jen, your FT4 level is only slightly elevated. She should have also tested your T3 or FT3 level since T3 often shows a higher spike than T4 in Graves' disease. If you're having hyper symptoms, a low dose of PTU, like the one she suggested, will be effective at lowering your thyroid hormone levels and slowing your immune system down. You'll want to have your labs rechecked in 4-6 weeks to evaluate this dose of PTU. Take care, Elaine

Guest guest
Hi Jen, All Endo's tell us to take the meds once or twice a day but if you have been around these boards here or maybe your new to the board the meds work better by splitting them up in 3 or 4 doses. Now this is the info Granny gave me when I was on 100mgs 2 50mgs pills. Now what you do is split the pills to have 25mgs, 25mgs, 25mgs, 25mgs and take the PTU every SIX HOURS set the alarm clock if you can. I found my body balanced and bounced back really quick when I did this. You can listen to the Endo if you want but I find they lack the expertise in advising us on how to take the PTU. Right now I'm on 50mgs so I split my one pill into 1/4,1/4, 1/2 and take the 1/2 pill at night. hope this helps Alyssa oh Alyssa is back in action I have heat oh what a total luxury I can't even tell you all!
