Guest guest
Karina asked about the birth survey >From 2/08/01 The Daily Telegraph Hospital midwives sub-standard' By Celia Hall Medical Editor (Filed: 02/01/2001) ONE in four mothers says that care given by midwives in hospital was sub-standard, according to a survey published yesterday. Nearly two thirds said they received conflicting advice about breast feeding, one in five said they had little support after the birth, and half felt they were " left to muddle through " . Of the quarter who had caesarean sections, one in three said the care they received afterwards was " appalling " . The survey of 1,000 readers of Practical Parenting magazine, supported by the National Childbirth Trust, said women expressed high levels of disappointment, anger, fear and anxiety when having babies in hospital. But once home most praised care they received from the community midwife - 86 per cent said they had good support and visits were positive and reassuring. Belinda Phipps, chief executive of the trust, said: " This new research bears out previous evidence that for far too many women becoming a parent is memorable for the wrong reasons - as a time of incredible anxiety, fear and disillusionment.
