Guest guest
You may not be ready for ALA, despite this long time. I had this same problem. I had to do 16 rounds of dmsa alone over 16 months before I could tolerate 5mg of ALA. It means your blood levels are still too high OR you have hidden amalgam in your teeth or gums still. Any crowns? Root canals? > > I've tried several times to start on a very low dose of ALA, only 2mg > every 3 hours per Andys protocal. Once you have remove all the extracellular mercury with DMSA, your symptoms from it would go away because there is nothing left for it to move. Using ALA would start mobilizing mercury from intracellular spaces, thus causing symptoms. ALA also chelates arsenic, which DMSA does not. -- > >

Guest guest
Thanks for your help ! The symptoms come on gradually over the first 24-48 hours. I am taking 12.5mg of DMSA along with The 2mg of ALA every 2 hours. I'm starting to think my head must be loaded with mercury, because when I had my fillings out 22 years ago I remember the dentist saying that whoever put my fillings in obvious didn't know what he was doing, because according to him the percentage of mercury in my fillings was MUCH higher that it should have been. > > > > > > > > I've tried several times to start on a very low dose of ALA, > > only 2mg > > > > every 3 hours per Andys protocal. Guest guest
Also add thought #3 to the list: 3) Just because you " don't think " you have an issue with sulfur foods does not make it so. ALA increases plasma cysteine levels. If you have elevated cysteine levels and are not excluding sulfur foods, then I suppose even a tiny dose could cause problems. A trial of elimination of sulfur foods only takes a week or so. There is no other way to be sure of this issue. I hope you can let us know if any of these ideas helps. -- > > > > > > > > > > I've tried several times to start on a very low dose of ALA, > > > only 2mg > > > > > every 3 hours per Andys protocal. I am > taking 12.5mg of DMSA along with The 2mg of ALA every 2 hours. If you can tolerate higher doses of DMSA without side effects, why not increase the dose of DMSA that you use with the ALA? How are you splitting the ALA doses down to 2 mg? It would be important to get this as accurate as possible. The next thing to try would be some DMPS. You may find that you need to further clear the body with DMPS before you can tolerate higher doses of ALA. When I started I could only tolerate 5 mg ALA. After a year or more of DMPS chelation I can tolerate 12.5 mg ALA. Guest guest
To stephanie, Question on your ALA comments so are you saying that by avoiding sulphur foods and hopefully trying to reduce your elevated cysteine levels (what can you do for this), you might be able to do better on ALA any other ideas for helping with ALA other than go slow. I wonder if its a combination of heavy body stores of mercury and sulphur sensitivities that cause the most problems for some people using ALA Thanks, > 3) Just because you " don't think " you have an issue with sulfur > foods does not make it so. Guest guest
- .... and you're sure you're not missing doses - at night when you're half asleep or something, right? If your symptoms are coming on over a period of a day or two, then I'd suggest you are either high sulfur or you are getting something screwed up in your dosing or maybe you still have amalgam in there (though I see you seem confident that you don't - as long as you are sure). I would also suggest you make sure to take lots of anti-oxidants spread out through the day. That really helps. Have you tried the ALA alone? Guest guest
I also just started adding ALA and the first time I tried it, I felt cranky and had a strange numb feeling in the back of my head. I attributed this to the fact that I had been taking a supplement with a lot of copper in it. I cut out this supplement and my mood improved 100% over the next week or so, and now I'm doing fine on this round of ALA. Was it totally not connected? I thought the big side effect of ALA was that it makes you hold onto copper. I assumed that it would be the first problem I'd encounter. Was it more likely that I was high sulfur? --Aine > > - > > ... and you're sure you're not missing doses - at night when you're half > asleep or something, right? > > If your symptoms are coming on over a period of a day or two, then I'd > suggest you are either high sulfur or you are getting something screwed > up in your dosing or maybe you still have amalgam in there (though I see > you seem confident that you don't - as long as you are sure).
