Cast Away? I *hated* that film - it was wave after wave of awful

experiences of which the crash wasn't the worst for me (despite my

particular dislike of submarine films), I felt tense the whole time,

really felt like I couldn't take any more - I normally rejoice in

non-Hollywood endings, but could have done with one this time - and I

was absolutely livid when it said it was all fictional ....Much as DH

was over The English Patient - he said life's hard enough without

making unpleasant stories up, superbly made though both films were,

and despite him usually complaining of my taste for the grim, but

seeing nothing to complain of in Cast Away (and he's the one who is

afraid of flying!) He thinks my ranting on the subject is very

amusing (just as well!) It was my parents' wedding anniversary and

Saving Private was rejected as not the right mood...I don't

think we did much better with Cast Away, but maybe those in the know

could tell me otherwise?

I was really irritated that there were no special features whatsoever

on the DVD - much as I hated it, I would have liked to have known a

lot more about the making of it (and it might have been less horrific

'de-constructed' as it were). But then, too many special features

seem to be just a selection of participants telling you how wonderful

everyone else was.

One of our favourites is Apollo 13 - DS1 likes watching the lift off

scene and DH sits there and goes on about the amazing production

values (he has a whole monologue on the *door mechanism*!!!) and gets

all maudlin about being a wimp because he isn't made of The Right

Stuff and wouldn't have the guts to be an astronaut. I ask you! I

tell him they were probably all lousy fathers and husbands.

I was brought on horror films and love them and books. When I was 11 ish I

used to go upto bed with my brothers and sister and then my mum would bring

me back down at 10pm to watch Hammer House of Horror (after much begging that

I was old enough) It was a wonderful treat to be allowed to watch this with

the grown ups and I don't remember ever having nightmares. I can watch a film

and be scared witless but have forgotten it 1/2 hour later. My best friend on

the other hand doesn't like anything with blood gore violence or involving

kids so it can be quite difficult to go to the pictures together.
